He may be a little bit of a project, but that is okay since he has time to develop. What a beast he could be. Here is what I found on him on Rivals from the future 150 camp in Atlanta.

Chad Lang (Marietta Heat/2010) - The big man was the biggest player in the camp at 6-foot-11, 270-pounds and he played well enough to generate some buzz. He's steadily improving his game and still has a long ways to go but a Division I program will take a flyer on the big man.

It also sounds like he comes from some good bloodlines, both in character and on the court.

RE: Welcome Chad Lang
I saw him last Friday when he visited Belmont. He's huge, and I hope he can offer Belmont the inside presence we've been looking for to take us to the next level of play. Belmont's incoming classes look better and better every year.

I can't begin to explain how excited I am about the upcoming few years of Belmont basketball.

Mann and Lang both look very promising. Ian is a beast! Koran WILL develop into a beast. We have depth on the inside with Hedgepeth and Saunders. Add on Drew, Jordan, and House to support those players, and we've got something. I also see some promise in Trevor Noack. Hopefully Blake Jenkins will be good. Unfortunately, I don't see us having a lot of use for Brandon Baker, Johnny Rice, or Adam Barnes. However, they all three have strengths, and if their caliber is what is at the bottom of our roster, we've definitely got something going for us.

Cobb County schools usually usually have great athletes, but aren't very well coached. I'd love to see what Ricky can do with him.

Already excited for next season!

Big men are hard to come by, even developing ones. If this kid has the will, I have faith that Maestro Byrd can do something with him.

I remember his father, Andrew Lang, as a passable NBA journeyman center. And his mother played college ball for Arkansas, too? Nice.

Sounds like a bit of a project - but what an upside. We haven't seen a physical specimen like him in the A-Sun since ETSU joined the league.

That's exactly the sort of kid that mid majors should be landing. Nice job - a big step up from Mike Dejvorak. I wouldn't be surprised if Scott Saunders loses minutes to this guy.

I'm expecting him to redshirt his first year. From what I've seen and heard, I think he could definitely use some more time to mature and at the moment he wouldn't be taking time away from Mick or Scott. Giving him a year to learn from our staff and players then another year playing behind seniors Mick and Scott should give him a lot of experience before we really call on him to anchor the middle.

That being said, you can't teach size! Plus having a former NBA journeyman and current NBA employee father, a college standout mother, and a brother already playing D1 ball can't hurt.

A redshirt year might indeed be ideal for Chad Lang's long term development. But I thouight Saunders was a little slow and ponderous - not as effective as you might expect considering his size advantage in this conference, after a year of experience for Rice in Conference USA and another year of work as, in effect, a redshirt for Belmont.

Lang has the potential to be something altogether different. And better.

Yes, I agree Saunders didn't quite seem to reach the potential, at least we fans had hoped for. I was hoping for a higher profile big man and I know we lost out on two for sure. This guy sounds a lot like Mike D to me. Came in on the heels of two veteran big men with "potential" written all over him, and while Mike D was a popular kid, never amounted to much on the court. Mike D did not redshirt and should have, but we don't know about any other factors in his life that may or may not have contributed to that decision. I would fully expect Lang to redshirt next year. The comment in the Rivals info..."I would expect a Div 1 team to take a flyer on him" doesn't get me overly excited.

On a side note.....last thursday evening I was at the airport flying out and I saw a huge african american kid get off the plane I was about to board and the thought went through my mind that that is the kind of kid we could really use at Belmont. Not sure it was him but the timing sure fits.

RE: Welcome Chad Lang
I've been running pickup alongside many players from the team and I'm really excited for our team next year. I watched Chad shoot around for a bit on Friday and he has potential. I'm hoping that redshirting for a year then spending his freshman year behind Mick and Scott gives him ample time to develop before we need him to play any kind of big minutes.

Also, on a side note, it's going to be nice having two more mature freshman in Mann and Jenkins. Mann essentially took a year off to work on his game at the #1 postgrad basketball program in the nation and Jenkins had his redshirt year. I haven't seen Mann play but his stats from the season were quite impressive. Jenkins on the other hand has bulked up quite a bit since being at Belmont and has really impressed me during the pickup games.

Let's not give up on Scott too quickly. I have heard from coaches in the past that big men take longer to develop physically than smaller men. For some big men, they take off in the junior or senior year.

I remember watching Will Perdue when I was a Vandy season ticket holder back in the day. Will looked gawky and awkward on the court. In fact, I remember hearing people giggling at some of the things he would attempt in those rare moments he actually played. Then when he started his junior year, he took off.

I looked up his stats to verify what I remember.

Points:
FR - 2.7
SO - 3.5
JR - 17.4
SR - 18.3

Rebounds:
FR - 2.2
SO - 2.8
JR - 8.7
SR - 10.1

He ended up with a 13 year career in the NBA. This is not to say Scott will do the same, I'm only saying that we can't give up on Scott becoming a dominating center. His time may be coming.
