Butler is serious
about educating it's students. I heard on the radio yesterday that the Butler players had to go to class the morning of the final. I'll bet that's never happened before, but I guess there has never been a team in the finals, whose campus was 5 miles from the site of the finals.

I wonder how true it is. I heard someone say on TV or Radio that Kentucky's One-And-Done guys do not attend class. Anyone know if there is any truth to that?

Yeah. I'll bet their minds were really on their classroom work that morning. It's like when I go to a boring lecture. I might be sitting there, but my mind is somewhere else. But it makes for good press. It's sort of like the guy who is sitting in church every Sunday morning, but he's out running around on his wife on Saturday night. Nothing like a good dose of hypocrisy.

You're probably right. You'd think that on the morning of the finals, they'd let them miss one day of classes. Seems like I remember hearing that our guys not only didn't stay in Hot Springs for the Sun Belt tournament the first year in Hot Springs, but they had to go to classes the morning of the game. Wrong for the kids in my opinion.
Reminds me of Catholic High's baseball team playing in the state tournament several years ago. They won the first game(obviously played after school hours), and their second game was scheduled during school hours. Father Tribou wouldn't let them miss class, and they had to forfeit the game. He obviously was a great school administrator and disciplinarian, but I think that's taking things a little too far. Knowing his rule on not missing class for extra curricular activities, and that some games are scheduled during school hours, he should have not have let his team be entered in the tournament.

Not sure why he went that route. I played football, basketball, and soccer at Catholic, and he didn't have a problem letting us leave early for road trips to place like Mountain Home, who was in our conference at the time.

I don't know either, but I remember it happening, and it was quite a few years ago. Maybe the good Father mellowed some in his later years. It happened long enough ago that baseball was not the major sport in Arkansas high schools that it is today. Maybe he considered it a minor sport and didn't want to let students miss classes for trivial things.

That reminds me of a story that I've heard from several different sources here, and that was that Tony Martin, who was a high scoring guard that played for Platt, never attended another class after the Trojans were eliminated from the Sun Belt tournament. Supposedly he packed his bags and hasn't been seen in Little Rock since. Anyone from that era know whether or not that is true?

Well I haven't seen him.
