RE: Coaching Carousel
Well Butler is a better team right now than every other team in the country but one- and they're only a point behind them!

But I don't think anyone is going to tell you that makes Butler have a better legacy than North Carolina!

Except maybe Mister here!

RE: Coaching Carousel
Well, let's put it this way-

A- Where is it easier to recruit, Chicago or Clemson, SC?

B- Which school is a traditional basketball power and which one is a football school with approximately the same amount of NCAA berths as ETSU? Which school's greatest figure is Ray Meyer and which one is Frank Howard (or maybe Danny Ford)?

C- Money.

DePaul is a traditional Catholic basketball power. They may not currently be on a par with Villanova, Marquette, or Georgetown but they also haven't fallen as far as Duquesne or St. Bonaventure.

I would imagine DePaul would have to be considered one of the 25 greatest college basketball programs in terms of legacy. To say they can't win anymore is to say St. John's can't- and I don't think that's accurate.

Really, it's comical to ask why a basketball coach wouldn't want to move from Clemson to DePaul. It's like asking why Bear Bryant would want to go from Kentucky to Texas A & M.

ONLY IN EAST TENNESSEE!!!!

Mister- DePaul's is stronger. No mention of legacies. Clemson is stronger than DePaul now...but that will change because DePaul just hired Clemson's coach. How do you argue with the facts?... 21-11 Clemson
8-23 DePaul

The bottom line is...who cares? It's not about ETSU. It's my fault for suggesting that Clemson is more than a football school....which is all DePaul's got...unfortunately all ETSUs got.
So here is the original comment....

To most tradition speaks of more than just the records of the previous few seasons. Had you said that Clemson has had more success recently than Depaul then you likely would have had a valid point.

When Rick Barnes left Clemson to go to Texas, a similarly if not more so football consumed school, that told me that basketball was no more than an afterthought at Clemson and the environment was not conducive to building the program into one that could compete on a regular basis in the ACC. Purnell's departure just reaffirmed what I already thought.

RE: Coaching Carousel
from (again as I started this thread) the Charleston Post & Courier yesterday; supposedly Jeff Capel is a candidate for the Clemson job. I thought this part of the article quoting the Clemson AD was interesting for a big school with big time football and basketball:
"Phillips declined to speculate on the maximum compensation Clemson could have paid Purnell, who made $1.3 million annually. But Clemson might be conservative in regard to coaching compensation after the athletic department operated at $1 million loss last fiscal year."

Hey... don't forget about Wayne "Tree" Rollins.
