I see where the Trojans took two out of three from Florida International and earlier went 1-2 against Florida Atlantic. Have the Trojans ever gone 3-3 against the Florida schools? I can't even remember whether or not we've even won 3 Sun Belt games in the same year or not.

I haven't seen the team yet, but it looks pretty obvious that there is big improvement. Probably still a little short on pitching, seeing how we're giving up a lot of runs in some of the games. Finding and signing good pitching must be a lot like finding the bigs that can play in basketball. There is a shortage, and the big boys seem to get most of them.

Some of the shortage is the major leagues signing high school talent. I was somewhat surprised to hear Angels's player development Abe Flores saying that they prefer to sign high school guys over college guys, as they are able to develop the talent their way.

One big difference could be the use of aluminum bats in college, whereas if the high schoolers go directly to the pros, they can get a better idea of their true batting ability since they will be using wooden bats. Pitchers of high quality are usually pretty identifiable and in such demand that the pros want to sign them as early as possible, since it's harder to miss on a pitcher than a hitter. Obviously it happens, but if a kid has good control and can pitch at 90+ MPH, there's not much you worry about missing on.
