I'm curious as to how they determine this. If you click on the 2009 link at the bottom you can see last years bracket and ETSU was about $6,000 higher and not at the very bottom. Nevertheless it still sucks to see that.

Mercer has called me before to see what my current job is. They say it's needed for an alumni directory. Maybe they guess what everyone's salary is based on their response? I don't know how else you would know.

I'm sure these lists are all too high. People will never lie and put their salary too low, but they may put it too high for pure ego. Also if the school is guessing they are always gonna guess high. So maybe ETSU is just more honest than some of the others.

According to "How PayScale Calculated These Salaries" link on the page, no these factors were not considered. For example $49,400 in Johnson City Tennessee is equivalent to $73,677 in San Diego (San Diego State, listed at $68,600)(Source: BankRate.com). Both are regional universities.

Brackets such as this are misleading and as useful as a bucket of warm spit.

We live in Appalachia. By definition...all salaries are lower. Remember, that's one reason for the Appalachian Regional Commission and for that matter...TVA to help a depressed area of the country. No matter how much money the government throws our way...we seem to stay depressed.

Now you know why I pick on Johnson City so much. There's no money in the place.
