Pappy: Romar, SLU, Washington
Pappy I watched Romar win the other night and I thought back to him being at Saint Louis. His 1st year we had the miracle in Memphis. That team probably should have been a sweet sixteen team. The 3 bigs were good but inconsistent. Jeffers and J Lover were good wings. The pg, Redding was a shooter. Perry was a freshman and provided a spark off the bench.

That team was the best team in my time as a season ticket holder at SLU. Several teams after that finished in the top 4 or 5 teams in the “real” CUSA before the Big East raid. Romar was always recruiting kids that were never going to come to SLU and then would be left with no plan B. That left us with grinder ball.

The truth is Romar was never going to workout at SLU. He was going to get fired at some point because he could not recruit kids that fit his system. He was saved by Washington hiring him. It provided him with a place that he recruit kids that fit the system has planning to run. He has had several NCAA tournament teams that made runs in the tournament.

I supported Romar while he was the coach but I never thought he would workout at SLU. He was never going to be able to recruit the kids to fit his system there.

The next coach’s style fit what SLU was going to be able to recruit but after a few NIT appearances was let go. Then we got Rick. Rick looks to be building a sweet sixteen team with Porter on staff.

Isn't Porter gone now?
I agree. Majerus started from scratch, and the team looks really good for the next 2-3 years, at least. They are playing his style, and doing it well.

I agree with you about Romar. He was just in the wrong place. Seems to have found it, though.

I still miss Spoon, though.

Porter will probably hang there for a while.

Spoon is the best floor coach I have ever watched.

What was the name of the kid Spoon brought in who went pro after one year? Larry (I've gone blank).

Hughes. Romars team is looking quite good at this point. Routed NM on the way to the Sweet Sixteen. They talked what a fast paced running offense he employes which wears out other teams.
