Help is on the way?
March, 2010: Sonnier is a left-handed guard. Reggie's length and athleticism will allow him to step in and help Arkansas Little Rock out immediately. Reggie is able to stretch the defense out with his shooting stroke and can put the ball on the floor and drive past defenders when pressured. Defensively,...

Grade 82 -80-89: High Major Prospect
Player has the potential to start or significantly contribute as a freshman for most top national Division I programs.

October, 2009: Guy may be small in size, but is big in heart. He has the ability to take over a game with his speed and quickness in transition. The scoring point guard can light it up from 3 point range and can also dance it to the goal while...

Grade 79- 70-79: Major/Mid-Major Prospect
Player either can earn a scholarship to a top national Division I program or contribute significantly as a freshman at the mid-major level.

March, 2010: Leeper is a developing big man with good mobility and hands. Gus's defensive game is ahead of his offensive game at this point in his career. Gus does a terrific job of blocking shots, as well as, causing the offense to change their shots. Offensively, he can knock down...

Grade 81

Well, on paper this looks like the best group of freshman we've signed in recent memory. Two high major prospects and the other one point away from being a high major prospect.

My concern is that Steve will continuing using the same player as our primary ballhandler . . .one who is not a point guard. If Guy is really a PG (and I've heard that he really isn't) then we could start him and have Lionel as his backup. Solo, Matt, Kelson, Cicic, and Sonnier could compete at the 2; Alex and Sonnier at the 3; Courtney, Thornton and Marlo at the 4; and Marlo, Bails and Leeper at the 5.

Sounds like Sonnier is the big 2 guard we've been looking for. ESPN describes Guy as a "scoring point guard". I'm a little nervous about a freshman at the point, but we did okay with Paul Springer (beat Notre Dame in the NCAA tournament). I would like to see Lionel start the season at the point and let Guy play more and more as the season progresses. ESPN also seems to believe Leeper is more than just a "project". We have 5 starters back and some good players coming in (maybe 1 or 2 more we don't know about yet). Maybe its not all doom and gloom for next season.

Thanks for the info. Does anyone have ESPN Insider to get the rest of the write-ups on our new guys?

I'm not getting too excited at this point. I've heard these stories before. Show it to me on the court, not on paper. But it does sound like these are good young men who can help our program. How soon depends on how quick they can fit in.04-cheers

Right on with Paul Springer, but don't forget that we had a freshman point guard that was starting for us several years ago, named Bryan Criswell, who had all the tools to have been a very good one for us. Unfortunately, he left at Christmas break, so we'll never know how it would have turned out.

NAME POS HT WT SCHOOL RANK GRADE STATUS NOTES
Will Neighbour Power Forward 6-10 Central Park Christian (AL) PF #106 85 Signed
Nikola Cicic Shooting Guard 6-4 Rise Academy (PA) SG #114 84 Signed

That one guy with the 84 did not log 84 minutes of playing time this year, so I am taking the rating with a gain of salt at this point. I have hope but I am ready for someone to produce.

Nick plays very, very well in every area except what he was touted to do...shooting. I don't know why that is. You don't average around 24 points in prep school and be a bad shooter. I don't know what's happened, but I really hope Steve keeps him around to help him through it (psychologist? hypnotist?) because if he comes around in that area, he'll be one of our best players.
