Congratulations to UCA
Naturally, I don't know Williamson personally, and it is not yet known how successful he will be as a coach. But, it's my observation that UCA has made a good decision. I believe that in Corlis Williamson they are getting more than a respected name. I really believe Williamson is not a Moncrief or a Kleine. He will be energetic, personable and fan friendly. He has promised a style of play that will be pleasing to the
fans. I would almost bet a steak dinner that real quick like, UCA will be playing ball at the top of the Southland. Hats off to UCA for having the good sense, the courage and guts to do the right thing.

I totally agree with you on this being a great hire for UCA. Most people know nothing about the intracacies of basketball. When they hear that UCA has hired a former great Razorback and NBA player as coach, they probably think "Wow. This must be a really good basketball school".

I still maintain that had Sidney been here for three to five years, this program would probably be better off now. How many games did Joe Foley win his first season? Far short of 20. And he was a proven coach.
But not at the D1 level. Some could have said "He's clueless coaching at the D1 level".

Sidney brought in some talent and was a very personable guy. I know we put him down for that horrible season, but the only thing we know is that Porter won 18 games the next year with Sidney's talent. I would have loved to have signed Corliss as our coach. We might not have won as many games next season as we might with our current staff, but I'll bet it would be a fun game to watch. So kudos to UCA.04-cheers

I believe he'll out recruit Shields in Arkansas without a doubt, but that won't be hard to do. Arkansas kids know of his hog connection, they'll like his style of play better, and too, you've got to remember that Shields hasn't been a good recruiter.

Don't know what would have happened if Moncrief had stayed. Yes, he brought in some good players, but he had some good talent the year he went 4-24 too. No way in hell you even refer to him and Foley in the same breath. The only thing similar about the two, was that both were referred to as a "coach" at some point in their lives. Here's where you use the expression, "he couldn't carry Foley's jock" as a coach. But, not too many coaches could either.

I wanted a coaching change, but not with some inexperienced coach. His being an ex-hog has nothing to do with it. I wanted a new beginning with a young assistant from a successful program. I wouldn't exactly call Arkansas Baptist a successful program.

Well it depends on whose model of success we're following. I guess we only need to know how many players they graduated.04-cheers

We'll see how good a recruiter Corliss is. Today's recruits were 2 years old when he played for the Chickenhawgs. Unlike Sidney, he was never an NBA star. While some instate recruits, may have heard their parents mention his name, out of State recruits will never have heard of him. The success rate of NBA players, with little or no coaching experience, coaching college doesn't appear very good.

He was an All American at Arkansas and led the team to a national championship. He was voted the "Sixth Man of the Year" award in the NBA as short a time ago as 2002. He has an NBA championship ring with the Pistons, and you can rest assured that these kids will be made very aware of these things, since UCA does a pretty good job of promoting their programs. Lu Hardin may have been a little on the unethical side,
(I'm being generous here) but he sure got their message out when he was around, didn't he!04-cheers
