We're dead! Might as well face it!
We're like Montgomery Ward and others were when they let a upstart called Wal Mart slip in and put them out of business. I know some will not agree with this, but we've screwed around and let UCA move ahead of us in the all important "public perception" area. Sure. We can make snide comments comparing Corliss to Sidney. And we can rationalize that he hasn't had much coaching experience. But now we're going to get even less ink than we've gotten before. Hell. Wally himself will probably be covering UCA games. He loves Corliss.

Did you read what Corliss said. "We're going to play Nolan Richardson basketball. Moving the ball up the floor and playing defense all over the court. I don't like to sit around and watch paint dry." Those Razorback fans who we've trying to get to come to our games, but have been staying away from our games for years will become UCA fans, while we're sitting with our fingers up our rears, dead in the water.

We had everything going for us with our new arena, and we've let our opportunity to move up the pecking order slip away. Shame on us. We can't get a coaches show on TV, and I'll guarantee you Corliss will be on one of the network stations in Little Rock. And mark my words, he'll recruit some of those good Arkansas players we haven't been able to get because he is going to play a style of basketball that appeals to more folks than grinder ball.

I am really upset about this turn of events, and put the entire blame on our administration for allowing this to happen. We had a chance to have a lock on the Central Arkansas area when it came to basketball, and we've let it disappear into thin air. I'm really going to reassess my priorities now. Paying over $1000 a year to watch an inferior product is not my idea of fun. Either we get this program up and running, or some of we long time fans might be up and running down to Conway to watch a program on the rise.03-banghead

Doc, UCA coaches show is already on KATV. We were already behind on that aspect.

Also, Southland conference basketball games come on a regular basis on one of the Little Rock stations. I think it is KARZ or something like that.

I'm buying season tickets to the UCA games and season tickets to UALR graduation ceremonies.04-cheers

I don't think the Corlis hire is going to do anything but set UCA back. What am I basing that off of? Our experience. That does not mean he will fail but I think the wiser chose would have been a big 12 assistant if they could have gotten one.

That could be the case. It will be interesting to see who will be his assistants and the players he will be able to land. If he can get the McNeail kid from Conway to sign at UCA, that will be a good sign that he can get some players. McNeail is a 3 star point guard. I did check and saw the Purifoy kid has already signed with UAB, I bet that was a Flanigan recruit.

Every knowledgeable coach and others connected to college basketball agree that success is about 75% recruiting, 20% scheduling and 5% coaching. Some have said that recruiting is 95% of the equation. So there's no doubt in my mind this was a better hire for UCA than some unknown Big 12 assistant.

If you noticed, they gave him a 3 year contract, not a four year or five year. What bugs me is that we gave our coach an extention that puts us in a no win situation. If he's successful, he can always leave, but if we want to make a change, we have to buy him out. A smart mid major AD would give raises after a successful season, not an extention that possibly puts you in a bind if you decide to make a change.03-banghead

UCA had a chance to become relevant. This hire is a complete joke. They actually had a guy who was a good coach. No one knows what they got now. Really a stupid move.

Whether or not not Corliss becomes a good coach remains to be seen, and I'm not saying that he'll be another Sidney bust. And I believe that he was hired , as Sidney was, as a PR stunt to attract attention, and hope the hog fans jump on the bandwagon. UCA could have gotten a more experienced coach, but chose the Sidney route.

We had the opportunity to move forward this year, and for whatever reason we didn't. Yes, I believe that even with Corliss, they'll eventually move ahead of us, at least with the public. And yes, I agree that our administration blew it. We chose the same old **** route.

As far as Wally Small being on the UCA team, you bet. He'll have to have a breathing tube inserted because his nose will be so far up UCA's ass that he won't be able to breath. He loves him some hogs and ex-hogs. He might even take Jeff off our beat, and make him a UCA beat writer.

LR Alum has already told you that the UCA coaches shows are on network TV, while ours are still on the cable where nobody, including most of our fans don't watch it. And frequently when you do try to watch it, it doesn't come on when it's scheduled.

I agree, if UCA can win, they'll move ahead of us pretty quickly. Remember who told you this about two years ago, Shields has taken us a far as he can take us.
