Tony Barbee and Rod Strickland to DePaul?
http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/colleges...paul-coach

Quote:UTEP coach Tony Barbee is a strong candidate to be DePaul's next head coach, according to ESPN college basketball analyst Doug Gottlieb.

Gottlieb said Monday he believes Kentucky assistant coach Rod Strickland, a former DePaul player, would be a candidate to join Barbee's DePaul staff.

"I know [DePaul] reached out to Frank Martin before he re-signed with Kansas State," Gottlieb said Monday on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. "I think what they do is go down and get UTEP's coach. He played at UMass, was an assistant at Memphis and has done a terrific job at UTEP.

Go Tigers!!!

I wouldn't be surprised. Strickland was bound to leave to make room for Kenny Payne.

I always thought that Cal would recommend Barbee for Kentucky coach when he leaves after this season. That move would make a lot of sense.

Depaul is a terrible job IMO. Barbee would do better to wait on something else.

Agreed. Depaul is a terrible job. They are about 12th in the pecking order of importance in the Chicago area. If you want a job with nearly total obscurity, this one's it. Even El Paso is higher profile than this.

If that happens, so much for Barbee's career. Depaul has been beaten down so bad, it can't be rebuilt.

You are kidding. Barbee is not that great of a recruiter and Depaul is not that good of a school to get a good enough recruiting class in a year. Barbee has good recruiting ties in Memphis but that's about it. At UTEP he could do okay because he didn't have to play Marquette, Louisville, Cincy, Georgetown, Providence, etc. He got to play SMU, Houston and ECU at UTEP. This years class is the only one he has had that has met expectations.

Wonder if Uncle Wes is involved, I mean since he's going to be an official agent and all.

Maybe Tony Barbee the UTEP Men's Head Basketball Coach wants to get out of their while he can get to a new job, rather than get fired at UTEP in the next two or three years IMHO. That is the only way I can understand the interest by both parties in the end.
