Any other teams have a REAL issue with Doug Gottlieb?
He's been ragging on UL program for years. His latest were yesterday 1 regarding the game and its importance for UL getting in the tourney and then he took a jab at Freedom Hall as being an average arena and no big deal for its closure.

One of our guys on the Scout.com board emailed him wondering what his issue was with Freedom Hall, with his response being location and architecture are average at best.

So here was my paraphrase portion email back to Dougie.

1. Location...next to campus, airport, churchill downs, right outside of downtown and hotels, bars, etc..how big of a deal is it to be next to Expo Wings

2. Architecture..
a) What does Freedom Hall not have that so many other old stadiums have/had? Colunms in the viewing way.
b) What is one of The Hall's trademark for fans....it is a fan friendly setup for seating....
c) What does Freedom Hall have that older arenas don't have such as Rupp Arena.....Luxury Boxes

The dude seems to have an issue with our program, don't know if it stems from an incident, snubbing in recruiting, or whatever, but he has out for us for years now on the 4 letter network.[/align]

Who cares what Gottlieb thinks? The reason he's commenting for ESPN is because he couldn't cut it as a coach...

I wouldn't mind his negative comments about ND basketball if he had this disclaimer on the screen:

"I am a former Notre Dame basketball player. I was expelled from the University of Notre Dame for stealing other student's credit cards."

At what point does one of us make the obligatory "ahhh, doug gottlieb, hide your credit cards!" joke?

I just can't believe that he has chose to pick his role as the douchebag commentator that contracticts himself constantly, degrades programs and now facilities arbitrarily, and ESPN keeps putting him in front of us day in and day out to sell that trash...

The guy is already annoying as is, he thinks he knows everything. Tonight though, was unbelievably annoying and unprofessional. And incident happened between an Illinois player and coach Bruce Weber. Jay Williams and the other guy in the studio, I never coach his name were discussing it, and Gottlieb blew it off as nothing and kept interrupting. It clearly was something if you saw the video. They switched to something else and when they went back to the Illinois situation whenever they talked about it Gottlieb would yell over the segment and scream about something else. As a viewer I found that unbelievably unprofessional because I would like to know what happened. He does stupid crap like that, but, of course, ESPN then rewards him with a radio show. But that was ultra annoying. The biggest irony of all was a year ago when he had the gall to call a player a punk considering his background.

The host of hte show today called him out at the halftime of that Illinois/Wisky game as they were going to break. They were discussing bubble teams and seeding and as they left, the host maybe Dari said paraphrased "We better not bring that up that will just start another argument and you like doing that" something along those lines....I bet that commercial break was alittle tense for Jay Williams.

RE: Any other teams have a REAL issue with Doug Gottlieb?
By the way, I found an article about Gottlieb and his comments and attacks towards Boeheim and Boeheim had a great come back:

http://blogs.fingerlakes1.com/max-power/...-gottlieb/

The Boeheim vs. Gottlieb fued started early on in his stint at ESPN in 2004 when Gottlieb accused some Big East teams, including Syracuse, of playing non-conference schedules so easy they were “fraudulent.”

Now perhaps "fraudulent" wasn't the right word for a guy who was kicked out of school for credit card fraud to use. In fact, Boeheim actually fired back that, "the only thing I know about fraudulent is (Gottlieb's) use of credit cards". Boeheim also went on to say, "One guy in particular was in our league for a minute or two but he couldn’t play in it. He seems to do the most talking, probably because he wasn’t a very good player and he’s not very smart about basketball."

Ouch!

Here's the entire article. The guy is pathetic, including throwing his old coach under the bus after he gave him a second chance, talking about coach Eddie Sutton:

Anyone who follows college basketball over the past couple of years and watches ESPN's coverage and analysis you can't help but notice that ESPN's Doug Gottlieb doesn't seem to ever have anything positive to say about Syracuse or their Hall of Fame coach.

There is history behind Gottlieb's distain for Boeheim, the Big East, or anything Syracuse.

First we have to understand how Doug Gottlieb went from being a starting point guard at Notre Dame as a freshmen to his seat as an analyst at ESPN.

Gottlieb allegedly stole his roomate's credit card at Notre Dame and charged about $900 worth of purchases on it. When Notre Dame officials learned of this, they kicked him out of school. After a year off, Gottlieb ends up at Oklahoma State under Eddie Sutton.

The Boeheim vs. Gottlieb fued started early on in his stint at ESPN in 2004 when Gottlieb accused some Big East teams, including Syracuse, of playing non-conference schedules so easy they were “fraudulent.”

In addition to this, Gottlieb was the first to call for Oklahoma State's legendary head coach Eddie Sutton to resign after being arrested for DWI. Boeheim also takes exception to this. According to Boeheim, Eddie Sutton gave Doug Gottlieb a second chance after his conviction at Notre Dame yet he was the first to throw his former coach under the bus when he made a mistake.

Gottlieb also was the target of the Big Ten commissioner after he made some controversial remarks regarding a Big Ten official. You can read about this incident here.

Coach Boeheim talked about this fued with Doug Gottlieb among other items on Tuesday afternoon on Sports Radio 620 AM. You can check out the full interview here.

RE: Any other teams have a REAL issue with Doug Gottlieb?
Dougies comments about Freedom Hall were talked about on Joe B Hall and Denny Crums radio show they host.

Here is what Denny had to say about it...

Jennings (show host with Joe and Denny)suggested they mail Gottlieb a copy of Billy Reed's book about Freedom Hall and that it had a lot of picutures in it, insinuating that the pictures would be good for him, and that he could have someone read him the words. Denny said, 'Think he could find someone to read it for him?'

Yup!! He is a jerk for sure. CatsClaw said it best about his issue with JB. But since then he has been on Doug's show and things have been civil. For my part I am not a fan though.

I don't like his anti-Syracuse stance, but when he evaluates the rest of college basketball I find him fairly insightful and usually agree with him rather than I disagree. He's a jerk, but he's a pretty knowledgeable jerk. Honestly, with all the ignorant people on ESPN, Gottlieb would be pretty low on my complaint list. I'm able to disassociate my own team from analyst opinions though, so I'm not exactly a normal fan. Life's too short to hold grudges against talking heads on TV.

I agree that some fans can get too worked up about an analyst. I wouldn't bother emailing one for example. I do think ESPN has told him to play the college basketball heel though to use wrestling lingo.

The guy has about 15 teams in the tournament if you really listed to him. No one else deserves in, and those 15 are all on the bubble. I'm more sure after Saturday that he does it for the reactions, as opposed to honest evaluation. I explictly heard him say around 1:55pm Saturday that UofL had work to do, but that if they beat Syracuse they are a lock. Cue up the tape because around 4pm, he says that UofL got a nice win, but still have work to do. Ignoring that everyone else in the studio told him he's flat out wrong... he openly moved the finish line so to speak over the course of 2 hours. I say just for the hate emails.
