An ugly loss for UC
An ugly loss for UC

UC will be the No. 11 seed in the Big East Tournament and will play at 9 p.m. Tuesday at Madison Square Garden against the No. 14 seed, still to be determined as I write this.

After the game today, Cronin objected to what he considered an ambush of his players when they were asked in the media room why they’ve struggled down the stretch for the second year in a row.

“We lost to Marquette in overtime,” Cronin said. “We lost on the road at West Virginia and had the game taken from us. We lost to Villanova, which could be a one seed in the last two minutes of the game.

“We just played our third game in seven days against three top 20 teams. We played a great first half. We could have had the lead. When was the last time we played like this? It’s not like they played bad (in the last six games).”

But they certainly played badly in the second half of this one.

Stephenson’s 11 field goals were three more than the rest of the team combined. Vaughn was invisible, with only three shots and two points on a pair of free throws. UC was outscored, 22-7, off turnovers, 36-28, in the paint and 11-6 in second-chance points.

Chris always posts the corresponding articles to games or throughout the season. This is his normal mode of operation, and I appreciate the time he takes to do it. Thanks, Chris...

I turned on the radio with 3 minutes left in the game and they were down 25, I just laughed. I wasn't surprised at all. We will not win a game at MSG.

A series of LAME excuses don't comfort anyone. Hey Mick, here's a few we havn't heard yet:
1) The ballboy gave us the wrong ball
2) If we had only worn the RED uniforms
3) My assistant Coaches put in the wrong video
4) The basket was too high by 1/8th of an inch
5) I wan't tall enough to have the players hear the defense I called
6) The refs had it in for us because of Huggins
7) There weren't enough fans to root for us
8) MY COACHING SUCKED

RE: An ugly loss for UC
Maybe Cronin should have been asked:

1. Why does your 4-year starter Vaughn score just two points. And throw the ball right to the guy guarding him twice during the game. Why does your so-called all-time great miss wide open shot after wide open shot?

2. Why does Yancy Gates continue to receive the ball at the 3-point line in your offense. Why don't you tell him to put his big butt down on the low block and not move from there. What is he doing throwing cross-court passes twice from the 3-point line which Georgetown easily intercepts and goes in for easy lay-up. Why can't Yancy jump? Why does he refuse to leave his feet on lay-ups only to have Greg Monroe block several of his shots.

3. Why are you playing Larry Davis? This guy has not made a point, attempted a free throw or done anything of note for two consecutive ball games, but he is out there taking playing time from guys who you must rely on next year--Cash Wright, Dion Dixon, and Jaquon Parker. How does he drive for a layup from two feet away and miss the basket by three feet? After 90+ games as a UC player? Is this a sign of good coaching?

4. Do you really think UC played well in the first half? Did you know that your team had 5 points after 5 minutes and 9 points after 9 minutes? Did you know that Lance scored nearly half of your team's points and that the remainder of the team shot 20%? Did you know that your team made 41% of its free throws? Have you ever seen any basketball team beyond the 7th grade ever shoot free throws worse than this one? This is not a one-time thing, Coach. It has been going on game after game after game.

5. What is your explanation (this time) for the end of season swoon? Are the players poorly conditioned, lazy, no good? Whose fault is that?

6. Do you really think you deserve to be the coach of the UC Bearcats after that embarrassing performance, and numerous others too numerous to mention (e.g. at USF, at UAB, at St. Johns's, DePaul, etc).

I know. Just the headlines have become even more nauseating.
