Pitt just made Providence decide to quit basketball
I think the Friars may just say screw it with the whole basketball thing after tonight. Providence hasn't won since January but plays well, and has a 70-70 tie with 30 seconds left. Pitt has the ball and misses a shot late. The Friars grab the rebound and are fouled with 3.5 seconds left. They make 1 to go up 71-70, only to see Pitt go the length of the floor and see Gibbs hit the deep buzzer beater from the behind the arc.

What a dagger to rip the heart out of that goofy Friar mascot. Pitt earns the double bye.

Poor Providence is much better than their record shows, they have been competitive in just about every game they have lost this year. They've had some tough breaks, but mostly they just don't play any defense whatsoever.

One of the Pittsburgh sports writers said it best: "Magical things happen at the Pete". Pitt is now 131-11 there.

I think they are that bad. They are 0-6 in conference in single digit games. Of course that also means they've lost by double digits 7 times, including losses by 17, 22, and 30 in league play.

The amazing thing is that they've actually won 4 games, all by at least 13 points.

I agree. i watched that last shot and the defense moved away from the player instead of standing their ground and forcing the shooter to go around them. They gave him a clear shot at the basket.

RE: Pitt just made Providence decide to quit basketball
It was an exciting game. I was rooting for Pitt as Providence has no season left basically. But I really felt bad for the providence players, especially for the kid who just sat down in the middle of the court for a couple of minutes probably second guessing himself as to what he could have done differently, or maybe he was trying to figure out how they lost the game after being up by one with 3.5 seconds left.

And therein lies the crux of Providence's problems on the court...

They have had many of those this year. Loke the two loses to USF. But yes bad defense will make results like those more likely to happen. But they are better than record indicates and could win one in BET

I think the Big East would be better conference with out DePaul, Providence, Seton Hall and St. Johns. 04-rock

They need to move down to another level where they can prove themselves competitive. That's what I like best about European football leagues. The unworthy don't stick around long...
