Coach of the Year award
Is the coach of the year award voted on before the tournament? If so, there should be no doubt that Joe Foley is the women's coach of the year. He finished with the #1 seed, beat the #2 seed, and did this while losing his second leading scorer from last season, who should have played this season.

While I might disagree on the "no doubt" portion of your post, I agree that Foley should win the award.

The awards were announced last year on March 3. I've taken the time to make my predictions on the awards at BlueRaiderZone. But here are the predictions without analysis:

POY--Alysha Clark (MT)

COY--Joe Foley (UALR)

Freshman of the Year--Jasmine Godbolt (NT)

Newcomer of the Year--Niq'ky Hughes (NT)

Defensive POY--Jackie Pickel (MT)

1st Team
Alysha Clark, F-MT
Chastity Reed, F-UALR
Kaetlyn Murdoch, F-Denver
Arnika Brown, F-Western
Ebonie Jefferson, G-ASU

2nd Team
Britteni Rice, G-Denver
Jackie Pickel, G-MT
Brandi Brown, F-MT
Donette McNair, F-Troy
Amy McNear, G-Western

3rd Team
Mercedes Johnson, F-ULL
Brittney James, G-NT
Shanika Butler, G-UALR
Kim Sitzmann, G-UALR
Michelle Gonzalez, G-FIU

I don't see anything wrong with those choices.

Asriel Rolfe is the 2nd in the nation for assists / turnover ratio. That ought to make at least the 3rd team SBC.

Well, then maybe she replaces Sitzman. Doubt we are going to have 4 players on the All Conference teams.

Hard to believe we would have 2 of the Top 5, but Shanika Butler is 4th in the nation as well.

Assists/turnover ratio is a great tool for evaluating point guards. But the All-Conference voting hasn't historically rewarded that stat over others. Without a gaudy assist average of more than 6-7 a game, I don't think any PG gets recognized based upon that stat alone. The player would also need to be a good scorer, defender or other specialist.

I really wanted to move Butler to second team. She doesn't have the scoring average and her rebounding is low, but she's got great secondary (assists, steals, A/T) numbers. But I think most the voters are going to focus on the easily observed numbers of scoring and rebounding.
