Our chances against ASU.
If we play the same lineup we played last night, and if Bails, Burton and Thornton can stay in there against Adams, we might, and I say might, have a decent chance to win. I really think we're as good as they are, with the exception of Adams, who gave us fits in both games. We were lucky as heck to win the game here. El Fuerte's shot wouldn't have gone down more than one in a hundred in that same situation. Fortunately for us, it was that one time. Should be a really good game. Shame it couldn't be in the finals.04-cheers

I was all set to pull for ASU to win the tournament then, they lose to Troy and we beat N.O. setting up the game Us against them for the rubber match. Since we played Troy close, I figured ASU would beat them easily. Didn't happen. Now, I'll be pulling for the Trojans first and ASU second.

I'll bet they're licking their chops getting another shot at us after that lucky ending in the last game. I think we've got two chances, slim and none. Slim got us the win last time. I believe they're better than we are, but not by that much. Can we beat them in Hot Springs? Yes, if all the stars are aligned right.

Someone said Steve must be reading my posts. Well if that true, which I doubt very seriously, I believe there is a way to have a chance against ASU, but he'll have to change his game time coaching style. Here are suggestions given to me by a former great college player and former coach who has been to some games with me and has critiqued our games.

First, start and play the five that played against UNO. Don't keep running players into the game, except to spell a tired player for just a minute or two, or if a player gets in early foul trouble. Those are your best. Solo, III, Alex, Courtney and Bails. Second, tell the players what you want them to do when you are practicing. Once the game starts, don't be yelling instructions and trying to micro manage every possession. Sit down and enjoy the game. Just let them play. If someone makes a mistake, don't say anything to them while they're out on the court during the game. Don't mess with their heads.

And Third, don't call timeout every time the mood strikes you. If ASU starts to go on a run, then you call timeout. Otherwise, don't interrupt the flow of the game. But when you do, just keep it simple. Not a lot of technical stuff. Settle down, protect the ball, find the open shooter, and play defense. By this time, that's all you need to be telling them in a game. If they haven't learned what you've been teaching them by now, they aren't going to learn it during the game.

That's my friend's strategy for winning the game. Will we do it? Probably not. Will it win the game? Who knows, but what the heck. It makes sense to me. It's worth a shot.04-cheers
