Worst homecoming crowd I can remember
That was the smallest turnout for homecoming that I can remember. I thought our student turnout was smaller than we'd had at recent games. I guess even the students know we're pretty bad this year.

RE: Worst homecoming crowd I can remember
Once again I stayed in Russellville and watched Tech play. I have driven up for the last two Wed womens games.

That's funny, because I commented about how good a crowd it was, considering we had lost 21 games. and I thought there were a lot of students there, and they stayed for the entire game. A few years ago, they would stay through the halftime ceremonies and leave. Funny how we all see things differently.

The student section was not near as full as it has been as recent as a couple of weeks ago. Usually most of the students stay at least until they draw the lucky number.
Perhaps you were talking about the organized fraternity boys, who came dressed in their frat shirts. Where in the hell have they been all year? I haven't noticed them coming as a groups this season. They came for homecoming. That's one thing I've been disappointed in with the students, that the fraternities and sororities haven't been involved as groups at the games. And they are they ones who usually are organized. While we have had much better student involvement this year, evidently we failed to get the fraternities and sororities involved.

Maybe we can keep improving in that area. I can remember when there were practically no students there, and we seem to have a larger and more vocal group of them. Start winning big, and we'll probably attract even more of them.

:soapbox:
There are far fewer "greeks" on campus then in the past. The Kappa Sigmas turned out in force according to my nephew. The historically white "IFC" frats are dwindling. Sigma Nu just had it's charter suspended by nationals due to low numbers and their lodge is being sold and demolished to make room for dorms. Kappa Sig had a big boost this past fall with about 9 new memebers. Pi Kappa Alpha has been struggling back to it's feet after their house burnt down a while back. The "NPHC" frats (A Phi A, etc.) seem to do better due to low overhead (no lodge!) and strong student appeal for these historically Black organizations.
:soapbox:
The irony is, there is more traditional "campus life" now than there was 20 years ago. When I was there, I pledged Sigma Nu in a class of 50 brothers (50!) We initiated about half that number, but our total organization was at around 70 members. The Kappa Sigs had about 40 and the pikes were not far behind that. We were very strong in 1990. There were no dorms and games were at Barton. We only went to the homecoming game and left at haftime. Last fall Sigma Nu had about 8 total members and could not pay the bills while the apartments and dorms were cropping up around us.
This university does not support Frats. :soapbox:
