Talk session at LifeQuest this morning. Thought I'd pass on what he told us. I asked him about Will Neighbour, and also if I could pass on his remarks, and he said there wouldn't be any problem.
First, he said that he had personally talked to Neighbour this week, and he can't wait to get here. The plan is to redshirt him next year at the Juco he's attending, so he will have three years to play at UALR. That's how it stands right now. Of course things could change, but as of now, he really wants to be here. That's encouraging.
They're going to try real hard to get Mike another year, but in a similar situation a player at Pittsburgh was denied that extra year, so it's probably not going to happen. The sad part was that he said Mike had made a complete turnaround and was doing everything right when he got hurt.
He said Louzeiro would have played when Mike was hurt, but they felt obligated to him to keep the redshirt on him, even though he could have helped win some games. Joe said that the other players hate to scrimmage against him. He beats the crap out of them. Very strong. Joe's working with him to learn to move better to get off shots around the basket.
Someone (not me, believe it or not) asked him about III, and he said he needs to work on some areas of his game, especially slowing down a little at times and getting set better when he shoots. Said III has the gunner's mentality, which is good. He also said that last year he had Patterson, Smith, Edwards and others, so teams couldn't focus on him, but now every team puts their best defensive player on him, and when he comes into the games the other coaches are calling out to their players "watch #20". So he has to create more shots on his own. He mentioned that when he gets the ball he needs to realize that someone is going to run at him out of control, so all he has to do is give a little head fake, wait for the guy to go by, and then he can either shoot, or drive into the lane for a short jumper.
Funniest thing he said all day was about walking into one of Foley's practices, and the girls were scrimmaging against each other, and Chastity's team was losing, and as they ran down the court she yelled out something like "For gosh sakes girls, get the ball to the Queen". That brought a huge laugh from the crowd.
All in all a great meeting, and not one word about the Razorbacks for the first time ever. Every question (many of which I admit, I initiated) pertained to the Trojans. Wish all of you could have been there. Joe is really good in front of an audience. I'll post a few other comments on the private board which are just some of my impressions.
