I'm extremely hopeful that DB wil be even more impressive next year than he's been the last couple of games.

I am also in an "upbeat about Derrick" mode this week. That could change quite quickly, but at this point I am also hopeful that he can be one of the better centers in the conference next season. We aren't talking about the Big East or ACC. There are not a ton of talented big men in this league. He has the tools to be an all-conference center in this league. He has an NBA center working with him. He will be a 5th year senior, so he will be one of the oldest, most mature players in the league. No reason Derrick can't be "the man" next season.

He certainly has the bulk to do it, and seems to have a nice touch. They need to give him mean pills - and passing lessons.

I noticed both more meanness (aggression) and better passing against NTU.

Agreed. I hope it keeps up. I love Derrick, even if he can be a goofball. Up until the point, the picture on the front page of coach Shields' website says it all...everyone is in the huddle listening to coach, except for Derrick, who's looking at the camera.

He can be a force if he just concentrates and sustains that fire.

I've never met Derek, but I've always thought that you had to have a little mean streak in you to play inside in basketball, and I have often wondered if that was what was holding Derek back. He seems to have all the tools, but he doesn't appear to be mean when he takes the floor. And I'm only talking about the mean streak when he's playing. I've know several good tough athletes, that were mean as hell on the court or football field, but gentle as a lamb in normal life.
