Back from the game. Lots of talent on the floor for USF. Pretty impressive group. They will be interesting to watch going forward.

the turnovers lost the game for us tonight, which was a surprise considering we usually avg 5-8 turnovers a game. gilchrist clearly needs to get back into playing shape, he looked awkward tonight as expected. we should of gave the ball more to famous inside, it was the one thing that was working for us and we went away from it.

i have to say marquette had a great game plan, jones was clearly frustrated and he couldn't get anything going in the paint. i think you all have a great shot at making the tourney and our chances took a severe hit, we'll need to sweep our home games and beat depaul to have a legitimate shot.

RE: USF-Marquette
USF is SO much better in hoops than they used to be....even in a loss you guys play hard and have a pretty good team. If you were in CUSA this year you'd be competing for #1 and have several more wins (so would we)...as it is now, we are both middlings in the BE....but such is life in America's toughest basketball conference.

RE: USF-Marquette
Marquette has the best shooting team that i have seen in the Big East if they had another big guy inside they would be atop 15 team.
I dont think we played well but MU had alot to do with that. Jones has to develop a consistent three point game to be big at next level. Hopefully these last two games have convinced him that staying for senior year and working on that would be best for him. We still have a shot at the NCAA but most USF fans would have said an NIT would be ahuge accomplishment and it looks that unless we completely collapse we will be in post season

if jones could shoot like those marquette guards, he'd be gone for sure. as it stands he's a project at point guard (plenty of guys were open after the double and triple teams that he just flat out missed) and is not a good enough shooter to play the 2.

i said before getting to the nit would be considered a successful season, especially after gilchrist went down. i still think we have an outside shot at the tourney we just need to win those home games.

Congratulations to Marquette. USF now needs a miracle, or a very unlikely Big East tourney run, to make the NCAA field.

I nwouldnt go that far. USF needs to win the games they will be favorite to win.
Home vs Cinncinati
Home vs St Johns
Away Villanova
Home Providence
Away DePaul
Home UConn

USF if it plays well could go 5-1 in that stretch finishing 20-10 and 10-8 in Big East. That plus a win in BE tourney should be good enough. Now we shall see if USF can do it but is not a miracle run it is doable for the talent in this team

RE: USF-Marquette
I said this on the Cincy board, but I am starting to think this Tuesday's game could be reminiscent of the 2006 UC-Seton Hall game. For those that don't remember, both teams were squarely on the bubble, Seton Hall won, we lost, the Pirates went to the dance, we didn't, in spite of us having arguably a better finish, and overall resume, than they did. Turns out it was pretty much a de facto elimination game. While Gerry Mac's dagger in the BE tournament is the most popular memory of our downfall that season, that shot probably wouldn't have mattered for us if we'd just beaten Seton Hall.

I could be wrong, but I can see the same thing unfolding here.

RE: USF-Marquette
yep, both teams can still play their way in even with a loss, but it's pretty much an elimination game for the 8th big east spot, i think marquette has done enough where they should be in especially with that xavier win looking very good right now.

RE: USF-Marquette
I agree with UL's win over Cuse today the cards look more like theyll be the 6th Big East team. marquette is looking good to end up being seventh so that really leaves Cincy-USF and Seton Hall all battling for eighth/
Cincy has a tough schedule left: @USF,Marq,Dep,@WV,Nova,@Gtown, so they cant afford any loses.
USF has an easier route: Cin,SJ,@Nova,Prov,@DeP,UConn
Seton Hall has the easiest route: @SJ,@WV,Rut,Marq,@Rut,@Prov
Marquette has: Pitt,@Cin,@SJ,@SH,Lou,ND
