Spencer Dixon
I must say that going into the year I wasn't sure which of our PGs was going to grab the reigns this year and run the team. I felt pretty certain that Coach Ingle was looking for either Kelvin or Spencer to be the main guy handling the ball, but I think that both players were given plenty of opportunity. Spencer has been an absolute difference maker at the point in the past 6-7 games. While he has a long ways to go, he is doing a great job as only a sophomore of getting us into sets, making decisions, and knocking down open jump shots.

It doesn't hurt that he is probably our best on ball defender. I just wanted to give Spencer props for playing very hard, and very well the past couple of weeks. You can see the difference he makes when he is on the court.

Of course some people might take this thread as a shot at Kelvin, and I don't want that at all. Kelvin has done a good job (and you can see it in his shooting percentages the past few games) of adjusting to his new role off the bench, and being the offensive spark that this team needs when he comes in. He no longer has to rely on always guarding the other team's PG, and bringing the ball up the court for 30 minutes. Kelvin can concentrate on what he does best...shoot that ball.

But this thread is to give props to Spencer. You can tell he worked hard on his jumpshot in the offseason as last year he was a putrid shooter, and this year he has turned himself into a very reliable 3 point shooter and a capable penetrator.

I have to say, Spencer is doing a great job as our pg. he really is leading the team. As far as i'm concerned, its Spencer's team next year when J-Mac graduates. He's is a no brainer for team captain.

RE: Spencer Dixon
I think Ingle usually chooses a senior(s) to be captain(s).

they can be "captain", but they wont be THE captain. Spencer really is running the team now. the past couple games i went to i sat courtside and he was barking out instructions like a point guard is supposed to do even when he didnt have the ball. That was the first time i've heard him really take command.

He is, but I've also been really impressed with Matt Heramb's leadership the last two games. He's really been stepping up in setting the tone for the rest of the team, even if he's not among the leading scorers.

I sit right behind the KSU bench, and I've also got to give big props to Petey Whipple, who is constantly acting like an extra coach.

Good to see leaders taking charge.

I think that Whipple and Nickerson have done a good job of getting this team through a rough patch in the middle of the season when we could have just fell apart. They are two guys that have been with us for 4 years who have had their playing time drastically reduced this year...yet they still come off the bench ready to contribute. We need that more than anything from our captains. We are kind of getting away from the topic, but JMac and Whipple are probably more important to this team than they could ever realize.
