RE: WVU-UofL game thread
There were enough bad calls in that game to go around for both teams. It was just another game of basketbrawl in The BEast...

Do I think they made the wrong call at the end? Yeah, I think it last touched Ebanks. However, the Cards dug their own grave in this one with poor shooting and sloppy play.

The call did not help but that is not what beat us today. Gotta score some more points and the refs were bad both ways today.

The Louisville man hit the ball out of Ebanks hands, and I thought Ebanks touched it last myself. I was surprised when the gave WVU the ball. But I wasn't going to complain about it...

I like what the AP writer put in his game recap. It pretty much sums it up for WVU...
Quote:Coach Bob Huggins, who earned his first win in four tries at West Virginia over Louisville's Rick Pitino, has always preached starting and finishing strong. His team did just that.

In between, it fell apart.

Free throws attempted:

WV 35
UofL 13

....lol bit, and you are complaining about the officials?

Congrats to West Virginia; tough loss for the Cards; this might be the game that keeps them out of the NCAAs.

RE: WVU-UofL game thread
The free throw disparity wouldn't have been so great if UofL hadn't missed the front end of so many 1 and 1 opportunities. I think the Cards only sunk one free throw on all their 1 and 1 tries. But there were enough fouls to go around in that game, that's for sure...

RE: WVU-UofL game thread
I can't disagree that UofL continues to blow lead after lead, potentially straight into the NIT. Up 17 on Nova late in the 1st half, up 5 with a minute left @ Pitt, and up 11 with 10 minutes left @ WVU. All losses.

I think you can say that UofL is more than capable of losing leads on their own. They didn't need any help from the refs taking a possession away with 7 seconds left, down 1.

RE: WVU-UofL game thread
I don't like to complain, but this was the worst officiated basketball game I've ever watched. I don't think the referees were biased, I just think they were incompetent because the bad calls went both ways. But, if not for the two blown out of bounds calls at the close of the game, this one would have probably went into Louisville's win column. It was crystal clear that the last two times the ball went out of bounds WVA touched it last. Yet, the refs called it off Louisville both times.

Was it UofL that had Pitt beat a week or two ago late but then choked it away in the last 3 minutes?

RE: WVU-UofL game thread
The one on Mazzula should have been called a foul. The Louisville guy tripped him, and grabbed the arm holding the ball when Joe was falling down. I think they gave the ball out to WVU rather than call the foul they should have called. On the other one, I do think Ebanks touched it last. UofL probably should've gotten that call. But either way, it's now history...

I like this quote by Joe Mazzula...
Quote:"It's hard not to stay in the game mentally when you have a guy like Huggins on the sideline ready to tear your head off at any second,'' he said. "If you lose focus, he'll bring it back.''
Fear is a great motivator, it seems...

Lordy, I'd be angry if I was a Cards fan. Those two out of bounds calls in the last 30 seconds were about the worst I've seen all year. I have no dog in the fight but sure looked to be a complete homer job.

I disagree on the Mazulla call. Mazulla stepped on the guys foot and lost control. That should have been Louisville's ball, as well as the one under the Louisville basket at the end of the game.

It was a trip, and he lost control when his arm was grabbed. Watch the replay...

I did on Sportscenter last night when they did slow-mo on both plays. Clearly should be UofL ball on both plays as it was off WVU both times with no foul. As has been said though, UofL shouldn't have lost the lead to be in a position where the ref can horribly blow a call twice in the final 20 seconds.

There was no fould called. But it was a foul. If you didn't see that, you need glasses. Either that or your current optical prescription is no longer adequate...

I'll agree with you on the 2nd one though. I thought Ebanks touched that one last. But the official ducked and didn't see it...

That kind of sh!t happens - like when they overturned the fumble that WVU recovered at the goal line on UC and refs awarded them a TD instead...

My last post in the thread. I have 20/10 vision since surgery in 2004, but thanks for asking!

As the objective UC fan mentioned above, it wasn't a foul. Mazzula fell out of bounds and the ball bounced straight off his head.
