Nathanial Hackett will coach and Roger Harriott will coach running backs. Hackett previously worked in the NFL as the offensive quality control coach of the Buffalo Bills. His father is former Pitt and USC head coach Paul Hackett.
Harriott was previously a successful high school head coach at University School in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Wonder if Hariott has any decent FL recruiting connections.
Let's see, on the offensive side of the ball we lost Spence, Drayton, and Elizondo and kept Adkins.
Marrone will be HC/OC, which is what he basically was for the last two games against Rutgers and UConn, where the offense was much improved once the constant "bubble screens" went away. So that should be a plus.
Adkins remains as OL Coach and recruiting coordinator.
Harriott definitely sounds like a winner. Obviously we'll miss Drayton as RB coach, but this guy has some promise and will be a good recruiter for us in Florida. But at best this is probably neutral, and most likely it's probably a minus - Drayton was good. Although RB is a position I think the Orange is solid.
Hiring Rob Moore as WR coach was a huge upgrade over Elizondo. Forget any talk of his not "coaching" before, the guy has helped get a lot of college wide-outs ready for the NFL. Still a "name" in NYC area. Huge plus.
Hackett is the odd hire. He'll be doing the QB coaching part of Spence's old job. Wasn't a QB himself and has never coached QBs. Just weird. With so many young, unproven QBs on the roster, have to wonder about this hire.
Overall a mixed bag on the offensive side of the equation, but a net plus, imho. We'll see how things go.
Cheers,
Neil
