Kerry, the New Mexico State Coach was
Lou Henson. Kerry and I was talking at the game last night, and I mentioned that when New Mexico State was in the Sun Belt, that they had a big name coach, who had had great success on the major level before New Mexico State. I couldn't remember his name at the time. He was a grad of New Mexico State, and after retiring at Illinois, he returned to his Alma mater to coach. He had coached NMSU prior to coaching at Illinois. He retired at NMSU because of health problems.
Hardin-Simmons 1962-66
New Mexico State 66-75
Illinois 75-96
New Mexico State 2001-0

I had told Bob I did not think they played but about two years in the SBC before moving to the WAC. Reggie Thesus took over and started turning the program arround. Big Game in Ruston tomorrow if I can get down there.

According to the Sun Belt website, they were in the league for four years, from 2001-2005. [/b]
