Last week, a CMU fan wrote to question my rankings (specifically putting NIU ahead of CMU). This week, those two teams have basically flip flopped. But, as last night showed, the West is still wide open.

I think you're being more than fair placing CMU in third. Ernie Z. just puzzles me. He wins/loses what he shouldn't. Overall, I think the MAC is VERY weak in basketball. Losing twelve straight in Oxford? Unacceptable ("New Boss Same As The Old Boss"). More importantly, what is Charlie's record against us since leaving CMU? Direct reflection on Herb? Possibly so.

Yeah, I don't think anyone from CMU could honestly question your rankings. If anything, I think you're giving CMU more credit then they deserve.

The Chippewas still have a ways to go yet if you look at it objectively. They aren't winning games they are supposed to win, and every once in a while they are winning games they are supposed to lose. So they are really too inconsistent to say that they have arrived as a MAC power by any means.

Maybe next year they will have learned how to win those games on a more consistent level. This program is still in the process of returning from the depths of those seasons a few years ago.
