DeCourcy: UAB deserves more respect than it's getting
Quote:Underestimated At Birmingham

At CollegeRPI.com, Jerry Palm has UAB as a No. 8 seed on his projected NCAA bracket. ESPN's Joe Lunardi has them as a 9 and our own Ryan Fagan has them as a 9.

Excuse me, but who do the Blazers need to whip to get a seat at the adult table? At 18-2, they've defeated Cincinnati, Butler and Tulsa at home and beat Marshall on the road. Some of UAB's toughest games remain (at Memphis, at UTEP), but the Blazers' work to date deserves greater respect.

If Tulsa could beat Duke next month it will help.

We're going to have to win the tournament and make to the Sweet 16 or Elite 8 for this team to garner "greater respect." That is the way it should be with this team. Let them play with a chip on their shoulder, proving themselves to everyone this year. Once we back it up again next year, we will garner more respect on the national scene. Right now, we're a surpirse team that is "unproven" on the national scene. The positive side is that our guys are going to prove themselves this year.

DeCourcy always seems to have good things to say about UAB. He was on local radio before the Butler game and they asked him if he thought UAB could upset Butler. He says, "Do you mean do I think UAB can beat Butler? Yes they can and they will and it won't be an upset."

Decourcey has always been a great writer. Even though he has gone national, he still follows CUSA closely because he was the Memphis beat writer several years ago, and I think he was also the Cincinnati beat wrtier when they were CUSA.
