NEW YORK, NY – New York Life Insurance Company has secured the rights as Presenting Sponsor of the 2010 BIG EAST Men's and Women's Basketball Championships, company officials and the conference have announced. New York Life is the largest mutual life insurance company in the United States with 11,500 agents across the country.

The 2010 BIG EAST Men's Basketball Championship Presented by New York Life will be held March 9-13 at Madison Square Garden.

The 2010 BIG EAST Women's Basketball Championship Presented by New York Life will be held March 5-9 in Hartford, CT, at the XL Center.

"The BIG EAST Conference is very pleased to be associated with New York Life, a premier company with worldwide standing," stated BIG EAST Conference Commissioner John Marinatto. "Our Men's and Women's Basketball Championships are among the most premier collegiate events in all of sports. The men's basketball championship is played in the Mecca of College Basketball in the heart of the biggest media market in the world, while our women's tournament in Hartford continues to lead the nation in attendance year after year."

"This new partnership with an esteemed company like New York Life brings even more prestige to these events, and we are thrilled to welcome them to the BIG EAST Conference family."

As the presenting sponsor of both tournaments, New York Life will be designated as the exclusive life insurance company of The BIG EAST and will receive prominent exposure inside and outside of the host arenas. The company will additionally have an extensive print, radio and online presence in conjunction with both events, as well as a major media package on ESPN telecasts of both men's and women's regular season league and tournament games. Last year New York Life was the on-line sponsor of the tournaments.

"New York Life is proud to sponsor the upcoming BIG EAST Men's and Women's basketball tournaments," said William Werfelman, a spokesman for New York Life. "Our agents and employees definitely have something in common with the loyal fans, alumni and students of the BIG EAST schools, who know that selfless play usually results in championships. Our company is all about the selfless gift of life insurance to protect one's family -- and we've kept these commitments to policyholders since 1845."

The agreement between New York Life and The BIG EAST will be managed by ISP Sports, the exclusive multimedia rightsholder for the conference. The deal was negotiated by TargetCast tcm, media agency of record for New York Life.

Might want to check into how many years the deal is good for and how much money they are throwing into the pot compared to Fed Ex. And "pimping" strikes me as ironic coming from Big East people considering how your conference prostitutes itself with Notre Dame.

I suppose you don't think we get sick of hearing people come in with their statistics, saying "PICK ME!" all year long? 03-banghead

Impossible to do since absolutely no one has:

a) actually confirmed that FedEx ever contacted the Big East with a sponsorship offer.
b) if a sponsorship was offer, provided any information on how long it would last.
c) if a sponsorship was offered, provided any information on exactly how much the sponsorship was worth.

The only information we have comes from Memphis posters who claim "FedEx would offer the Big East a significant sponsorship deal". There is never any mention of how much this sponsorship would be or how long it would last. Heck, there really isn't even any credible sources (journalist, FedEx employee, etc) who would verify that the claim is even accurate. Essentially, the only thing Memphis posters like yourself do is speculate without ever providing any sort of facts of financial data to back up your claim.
at, but we also

I like how you think anyone on this board can make the decision to add Memphis.

Pretty simple... people here don't like the Notre Dame deal either. At the end of the day, none of the posters here have a vote in whether Memphis comes or not. They have no vote as to whether the conference expands or not. They have no vote as to whether the conference splits or not. You act like the people here have a say... I gave you a warning, keep it up and you will be removed from Big East BBS all together.

Actually, I had that figured out.

I apologize and will try to better in the future. I was under the impression that since everybody else gave opinions, I could too. With all due respect, though, I would like to point out that Memphis fans were ridiculed at the beginning of this thread and I only responded. Are we expected to silently turn the other cheek?

It wasn't all Memphis fans, Gray. It was just you. You come up with interesting points on occasion. But I get so tired of seeing the threads and posts you make saying how much better off we'd be with Memphis. It's gotten so old that it's not at all funny any longer...

Can't be. Everyone knows Memphis is bringing Fed Ex to MSG. Done deal. Just ask Tirgerscane.

And yes, Gray pining away for the BE is getting tiresome.

OK, but I suggest next time saying "Gray Avenger" instead of "all the people pimping FedEx sponsorship". I will also say that since the thread topic involved Big East sponsorship of championships, my comment was relevant. I also consider it to be true, but you boys can believe what you wish.

Assuming I am allowed to answer direct questions, the answer is "no". As I have explained numerous times, there is no incentive for Fed Ex to support C-USA. Memphis, as a founding member, already has membership in that conference. The offer to sponsor the Big East is simply an inducement for UofM's invite. Big East membership will enable UofM to reach its potential as one of the nation's premiere urban research universities, which in turn will not only benefit our community but Fed Ex as well, by (1) making it easier to recruit high-quality employees from out of town and (2) ensuring a local flow of qualified graduates.

Which basically means that FedEx would only sponsor The BEast if we allow Memphis to enter as a member. But once Memphis is in The BEast, what's to stop FedEx from dropping us like a hot potatoe and reverting to a Memphis only sponsorship? Absolutely nothing...

Guys, if you want to discuss FedEx, Memphis, or anything else regarding them then go to the Expansion board. There are already 200 threads from Memphis fans telling us how great FedEx will be for the Big East.

At the risk of being castigated for answering, I would suggest "long term contract". FedEx and the Orange Bowl have been partnered for quite a few years now. Besides, UofM brings a lot more to the table than FedEx.
