RE: USF about to take down Providence
thank god 03-cloud9

honestly we're just trying to hang on until gilchrist comes back, luckily providence fell asleep at the end and dominique jones just kept scoring

i like what i see from this team, we got kragthorped after seth greenburg left for va tech and stan heath is slowly building our program back to respectability.

D. Jones 46 points are a new USF record and third highest in NCAA this year. The Bulls were down 8 with 57 seconds left.

Nice win for the Bulls. I knew "Providence defense" was an oxymoron, but this takes it to another level.

If you have seen Providence play, then you would know that defense its NOT their strong point, but they are one of the highest scoring teams.
USF is one of the WORST scoring teams, as you noticed when we played UC and you commented on how poorly we shot.
Providence led the ENTIRE game so USF had to play their style of ball which makes it even more surprising that the Bulls could match them and score 95 in regular game.

It was a HUGE win for a bulls team that had ONLY two road wins in Big East History at Rutgers and at DePaul.

The Bulls are getting better.

I knew defense is not Keno's strong suit. Same for USF since they let a dreadful shooting UC team shoot around 50% from the floor. But after watching USF in person last week, I'd have thought it would take at least 5 OT's for them to score 109.

RE: USF about to take down Providence
we played with good effort, just with only 6 people seeing any minutes we tend to wear down. plus providence kept jacking up threes and it was one of those nights where it seemed like they couldn't miss.

i'll be there for the rematch against cinci, hopefully gilchrist and stephenson will be healthy.

Actually USF is usually a pretty good defensive team eventhough it did not play well defensevely on this past road trip. You can look at their defensive stats. As bad as they played they lost by 8 to Cincy at home with Gilchrist playind at home we should beat Cincy

you can't say we should beat cincy, look at the teams they've beaten, they're an ncaa tourney caliber team. plus, they were playing without stephenson and we had absolutely no answer for gates, we were just fortunate he was in foul trouble or it wouldn't have been close. besides we don't know how healthy or effective gilchrist will be he comes back.

Well we will find out soon enough. I will go on record that USF did NOt play a good game that day and still was within striking distance on the road.

Forget the score. It really wasn't that close. UC spent the entire 2nd half tinkering with lineups with guys normally buried down at the end of the bench. Other than Stephenson who was out with an injured ankle, the whole scholarship roster played that half. Looked like an exhibition game at times.

Gates is a load inside. When he's on his game, he's hard to stop...

Gilchrist is a good player, but it's going to take him time to get into playing shape. At this point, nobody has a clue on how he'll play when he returns this season...

Problem with Gates is you just don't know if he will show up to play game in and game out. When he plays hard, there is no better post player in the BE. Strong statement, but I believe that. When he shows up and coasts and starts taking fade away 18 footers, he is just another guy.

When is Gilchrist set to return? What was his injury?

I know. There are some games he just disappears. But when he's on, he's pretty unstoppable...

RE: USF about to take down Providence
i'd take greg monroe and harangody before gates, but i see your point, i've watched a bunch of cinci games this year and i noticed that too.

gilchrist had a high ankle sprain so you know those injuries can linger, and like bit said you won't know exactly how he'll play when he comes back, which is a shame because he was playing his way into the nba draft albeit against non big east quality competiton.

he's a legit 6'11 guy who was averaging 18/8 while shooting 75% from 3, team him up with dominique jones and jarrid famous and that lineup can win some games in the big east.
