Florida Gulf Coast (Official Game Thread) 01/22/10
2nd game in the road stretch. Need to get some excitement back to this season. It is a shame we haven't been able to pull off some of these close games. Still expecting the turnaround, but as we all know, getting your heart ripped out on a weekly basis hurts as a fan.
Trying to keep things in perspective, and hoping for the best. I have liked some of the things I have seen lately, but this team really needs a win.
As always, Go Owls!

Smother these guys defensively and they can be beat. They aren't that good.

We are last in the league right now. Time to face facts. I still have faith, but we need to put it together for a complete game like 84 said. We have played well enough to win several games that we have let slip away...Western Michigan and Upstate are two that easily come to mind. If we play to our potential for a complete game, we should have a great chance to come away with a win.

We are running well. I like this. Attacking the rim.

Ingle slows it down and we let them back into the game. WE NEED TO RUN.

Stop letting off the gas. We need to attack all day.
From now on we need to run an uptempo attack.
If this doesnt show that we need to run the floor than i dont know what does.
Day and night on offense
This game also shows that we have the talent but when we slow it down we remove the advantages we have.

At some point our guys are going to have to learn how to run a half court set with the lead without panicking. Yes, Ingle slowed the game down, but you can't continue to run all day when it is late in the 2nd half and you have the lead. At this point in the season we have a better chance of winning if we just keep running because our guys panic in the half court set, but hopefully at some point they will learn how to execute under pressure.
We almost let one get away, but the good news is that we didnt. We got a conference win on the road...I can't remember the last time that happened, so I am not going to be too gloom and doom, but I sure was nervous there at the end. We should have never backed off the press...that is really our bread and butter on defense. We could have still sat on the ball on offense and pressed, but no matter. WE WON! Huge game for us. I don't care who we beat. We won on the road in conference. Feeling good right now.

So it appears we slowed down our game (again) in the second half and it nearly cost us. I'm glad we got the win, but i still didnt get my wish of two good halfs in a row.

We had a good 2nd half up until about 9 minutes to go at which we fell apart on both sides of the ball.

KB, I dont agree with slowing the tempo with 10 minutes left. This team has struggled on offense all year and you decide to put on the brakes when they are up 20? Why not allow them to build some confidence and feel good about the win rather than slow the tempo and let a team back into the game. Doesnt make sense to me.
Owlzfan, tonights second half had to do with coaching. I feel we could have really laid the hammer down had we stuck with it.
