You do have give the Herd credit. They did everything they could to stay in the game - except rebound. WVU's rebounding edge was the difference in the game, especially on the offensive board...

Marshall has a good team this year. Will be interesting to see how many teams make the NCAA's from CUSA. Looks like UAB has a good shot as an at-large if they don't win the CUSA tournament.

Marshall's big kid in the middle, Whiteside, is going to be a good one. I think he was a big part of WVU's shooting woes in the game...

Marshall's coach looks to be a good one, and he's from WV.

Cusa is looking pretty decent right about now. The league hasnt been this good since realignment. I expect a couple of teams to get to the big dance, maybe even 3, and Memphis may not even be included. Memphis has dominated that league so badly that Its hard to imagine that league getting more than one invite, and it may not include Memphis. The picture will be a little clearer in a couple of weeks.

I'd agree that they are the best they've been since realignment, but right now only UAB has the RPI and really the case to make for an at-large invite.

Marshall has zero wins over any RPI Top 100 team - their best OOC win is against St. Bonaventure. UTEP at least has a win over Oklahoma this year (#76) but that's about it - they are sitting at 101 right now, and Memphis is 102. Tulsa has losses to Missouri State, Nebraska and Nevada; they do have a win over Oklahoma State, but their RPI is in the 60's.

So... we'll see. If the season ended right now I'd say UAB would be the only viable at-large candidate, and I don't know if playing a CUSA schedule will do much more for some of these other teams. But who knows... still alot of BB to play.

I bet the folks at UNC are really kicking themselves about this one. Whiteside is originally from Gastonia, NC...

Our big men haven't played well at all this year so yeah he would help. I do kind of like it when a Steph Curry type guy slips by the big programs. This Whiteside must have been a late bloomer, I wonder if he had any offers from NC schools.

According to his Scout page, he had an offer from Charlotte as well as Marshall. He's listed as a 4 star, so he wasn't completely off radar.

RE: WVU defeats Marshall
He wasn't known as a big offensive threat in high school. His forte has always been defense. Having that kind of size, without the big offensive numbers is probably why he was overlooked...
