Only problem I foresee is that he may opt for retirement before he completes his career. Takes a redshirt, plays then takes a transfer year. That means he'll have played one out of three years?

Unfortunately he already used his redshirt year in 2008, so unless he can get the NCAA to give him a waiver to play immediately in 2010, he will have to sit out his redshirt sophomore year in 2010. He would then have two years left to play starting in 2011.
That said, great get for Temple! He should make a huge impact in 2011.

I could have phrased it better-If he RS'd his freshman year, played a year and takes a transfer year off he will have actually only strapped them on in anger in one of the last three years. You just wonder how much skills might erode with the lack of playing time during that period. Maybe the additional time to fill out and gain strength wil be good for him but that's a long time to not play the game.

I don't think that's a big issue. Skills come back. This will work out well.
That being said, my guess is that if UM wanted him at LB, he's a bit slow for them at DB, but strong. In the MAC, his speed is probably adequate, so he my very well be a force.
