You're incorrect on our Panthers--the win over UL was their 31st in a row. I remember the announcers saying it after the game and here is a quote from the AP story on the game:

"Pitt (15-2, 5-0 Big East) won its 31st straight at the Petersen Events Center—the second-longest streak in major college basketball to Kansas’ 52— despite trailing most of the second half against the confident Cardinals."

Let's hope we can make it 32 against the Hoyas on Wednesday.

I am going by the NCAA Website.

I did make a mistake though. We are tied with Missouri for 3rd. Dayton is 4th with 29 wins.

Not saying that the NCAA doesn't make mistakes, we know they make plenty--but they are dead WRONG on this count. I've investigated and think I now know why they say 30 when it is in reality 31.

I bet they don't count "regular-season" games against teams lower than Division 1. On 11/29/2009 Pitt played IUP (Indiana Univ of PA), a Div 2 team, in the second game of the Legends Classic at the Pete. I bet the NCAA doesn't recognize this game, even though it was a regular season game. RPI is the same, they don't recognize Div 2 games. Thus the problem is solved, but let's use the official count, screw the NCAA's count 03-nutkick

FYI, Pitt scrambled to find IUP when at the last minute someone backed out of the Legends Classic, can't remember who, but with all the schedules filled at that late date and needing someone at the last minute for this so-called tourney, Pitt scheduled a local school.
