David Letterman, Dan McNeil & Brad Biggs likely make up alot of that $ for BSU. McNeil is a sports talk show host on WSCR and he and Biggs are also sportswriters for the CHicago Tribune. I'll be Letterman donates a ton of $ to BSU

The thing is all we hear about is attendance and how that will dicate the future success of programs.

You have to consider gate receipts together with program giving. A program doesn't need a million fans if it has alumni that are willing to step up and provide donations.

11. Buffalo (1,180,237)
12. Eastern Michigan (772,668)

A few notes to consider:

-Ball State is number 1 but had an unusally high contribution level in 2008, regardless it is one of the better MAC schools for receiving donations.

-BG has a lot of contributions but again they do have a D1 hockey program that has won a national championship. I definitely have to believe that having Hockey adds a lot to their numbers. Also, I would not neglect the impact of haiving a football program that has been the best over the past decade.

-Miami has a large endowment set up for athletics which is helping their numbers and of course has a D1 Hockey program ranked at the top.

-Akron's numbers would be a few million higher if this data set was from 2009-10. It would also put them up easily in the top 5 of the league.

-Buffalo's number's have to be better now they've won a MAC Championship and Ward Manual's leadership.

That's the year BSU renovated the stadium so I believe that's why the larger-than-usual amount. I imagine Akron will show a similar bump for this past season with the building of their new stadium. It's great when MAC fans step up and help their schools with special projects but you can't count on that happening every year.
