Can't possibly be true.

A court might eventually force USF to pay him for the remainder of his contract, but, like the ex-Texas Tech coach, he's coached his last game at USF no matter what.

per local Bulls beat writer:

USF, in response to Leavitt's presser: "We stand by the review and the findings of the review." Post-termination meeting moved to Wednesday.

ESPN: Leavitt hires lawyers to fight USF dismissal

USF won't be doing anything until this is resolved...

Yes they will, they will hire a new coach. The best Leavitt will get out of this is compensation for being let go instead of the nothing he is currently getting since he was fired with cause.

If Leavitt's lawyers can bring just cause into doubt, the court could tie things up a bit...

bit
All the court can come up is that his firing did NOT have enough proof to not pay him his contract. So if that happens USF will have to come up with a buyout.
The ship has sailed USF has moved on. We wll have a new coach very soon.

Leavitt is after 7.1 mil vs 67,000 right? What if they hire McCarney for 5 year 1.25 mil and then lose the battle with Leavitt and owe him 7.1 does USF have that kinda dough to fork out?

Im sure that it will be settled for somewhere in between, the university could loan the money for the pay out to the athletics dept. From what we are hearing the university is going forwatd with hiring a new coach staring from 1.5 to 2.0 mill

Leavitt will not be re-hired under any circumstances.

Ship sailed on Leavitt. As someone said, USF will have a new coach very soon, probably within a week.

They can't prevent USF from hiring a new coach.

Are you kidding? Unless Leavitt can get a court to issue an injunction preventing USF from hiring a new coach - something unprecedented - USF will go right ahead and hire a new coach, no matter how many lawyers Leavitt has yammering for him.

In the long run, Leavitt may be able to settle for or get a court to give him some more money, but he's out of the job in any event.

As a matter of law, no court is ordering them to re-hire him. End of story.

Best he gets is damages and a potential vindication in the court of public opinion.

This is just a fight over cash and getting him a shot at another job. Right now he is radioactive.

it's sheer idiocy. how could leavitt even possibly think he could function has head coach at USF after this? and it's a moot point as other have said, there is simply no way a judge is going to force the university to rehire him, its lunacy.

JL is trying to salvage the money from a career which he cannot return. Who would hire JL after this?

Dienhart wasn't even speculating about him being rehired, he was just reporting that Leavitt was having a press conference demanding his job back through hiring lawyers, etc.

It may get real nasty. Word is that apparently, Leavitt wants to break some dirt on the South Florida athletic department and admissions process. He will probably get a nice check for some hush money. Don''t shoot the messenger, just reporting what my sources have informed me.

Leavitt will end up getting paid, but he will never coach another game for USF, obviously.
