Feel free to correct me if I screwed this up. After today's opener, I have these scores.

East

Kent St. -1
Akron E
Buffalo E
Miami E
Bowling Green E
Ohio +1

West

N. Illinois -1
C. Michigan -1
W. Michigan E
E. Michigan E
Toledo +1
Ball St. +1

Glad to see another season under way. What surprises await us this year?

I was a bit confused at first too but it is for b-ball conference play. THey did it last year and apparently are going to do it again this year. -1 for win on the road, 0 for win at home, -1 for loss (or something like that). NIU is -1 because they beat Ball State at Ball state.

axeme has run it the last several years. It is a unique way of doing the standings. A road win is a birdie, and a home loss is a bogey. Home wins and road losses are pars.

Actually, we have done it for 4-5 years after mollautt stole (!) my idea on miamihawktalk. I think he has been posting (and taking credit for it!) the last couple of years. But I'm not complaining! I'm bigger than that. Besides, he has to put up with flat sodas and old food at Millett, so we can throw him a bone.

The premise is that a home win or road loss is par (0) for the course in MAC hoops. Road wins are good, hence a (-1) birdie, and road losses are bad-- a bogey (+1). It is a more accurate way to see the "real" standings in the MAC, factoring out whether teams have played more home or away games. If your team is ahead in these standings, then the schedule probably favors them going forward.

I like it because if you 're not paying attention it looks like Toledo is winning.

Didn't mean to step on any toes by starting this up, Axe. Feel free to update it each week. I just was looking at the fact of three teams winning road games Saturday and immediately I thought of MAC basketball "Golf" standings.
