NFL Coaching Hiring process is a joke
Whats up with teams just giving an interview to a black coach just to say they gave a black coach a chance? I think it defeats the purpose of interviewing black coach's when teams already have a silent offer on the table.

Its a shame that Leslie Frazier even agreed to the Seahawks request. Initially he declined it for the very reason of it being a sham interview, but I wonder if he changed his mind for fear of being blackballed (no pun intended) by other owners if he declined.

I agree. Its just a dirty shame that this stuff happens. This is even more reason why I hate the NFL. I have no problems with seeing Black Head Coach's on the sidelines or Samoan or whatever race they are. All I ask for is fair interviews. I'd rather have the old system where coach's was handpicked and Owners just picked whoever they wanted. These sham interviews just make this process look 100 times worse.

It's a ridiculous rule imho. If an owner know who he wants to hire, fine let them hire him. Forcing an inverview is ridicoulous.

If a minority candidate is the best for the job, the owner will be missing out and will regret the decision. Someone else will find the candidate and hire them.

Yep that's how things should work. I really think Seahawk is insulting the process because that's not the reason why they need to interview a black coach. The black coach should feel insulted too. In an ideal world, best candidate should get the job regardless of the color. Unfortunately our world is hardly ideal.

There is no doubt tokenism, but the fact is the Rooney Rule has worked. Look how many African American head coaches there are in the NFL vs. how many there were prior to it being enacted. College football needs something similar.

The problem is if something isn't put in place, regardless of whether black coaches are the most qualified to be the head coach over another candidate, they were not and will not be hired. That is the real sham.

The problem isn't that the Rooney rule may be working a little bit. But it is not enough.

Correlation does not imply causation

NFL is a money game. If an owner doesn't hire a minority coach due to their skin color, another owner will. If that coach is a good coach, I believe he will get hired. Does racism, overt or incidental, exist? Yes. But, if an owner allows that to cloud their judgment, then they shouldn't have the opportunity to hire a good coach.

I don't have a problem with teams picking who they want. I say toss out the Rooney Rule. All it does is make the league look bad when teams are giving sham interviews just to fill out a quota.

RE: NFL Coaching Hiring process is a joke
An easy fix to this situation is just allowing teams to name a single candidate who they want to hire. If they for whatever reason don't sign this coach then the RR should apply. There is no need for a coach to be considered for an interview process if you don't plan on having an interview process.
