UCONN landed big time recruit Roscoe Smith
He is the missing piece in our recruiting class. Now if we can only land Brandon Knight. The kid is a big time player. It is nice we got him over Duke. We gonna need him when Stanley Robinson goes to the NBA.
Also, help vote for former Huskies on the NBA all star. 7 former UCONN players are on the NBA All Star Ballot.

By Mike Anthony on January 8, 2010 3:29 PM | Permalink | Comments (3) UConn received some great recruiting news today, picking up an oral commitment from Roscoe Smith, a 6-8 forward from Oak Hill, according to a text message from Smith's father, Brian Thompson.
Smith, a versatile wing, was said to be favoring UConn all along but waited to announce his decision as he continued to entertain pitches from other schools, primarily Duke and Georgetown.
Smith, among the main and major targets of the Huskies' recruiting efforts, is rated the 31st best overall player and sixth-best small forward in the class of 2010 by rivals.com. He attended UConn's First Night celebration October 16 as part of an official visit.
At the time, he said, "The main [thing] about UConn is coach Jim Calhoun, his work, the past, and also the legacy of the players who played here, like Rudy Gay and Ben Gordon. I can do it all. Right now, [UConn coaches] are telling me, if I do come to UConn, the world is mine."
Smith will fit in well with the 2010-11 Huskies, who will deal with the loss of seniors Jerome Dyson and Stanley Robinson.
Smith joins Cleveland Melvin, a 6-8 forward from Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, Mass., Jeremy Lamb, a 6-foot-4 guard from Norcross High in Georgia, and Michael Bradley, a 6-10 forward from Tyner Academy in Chattanooga, Tenn., as part of the incoming freshman class for next season.

Got to love 6'8" players who can run and hit 3s. Glad he is a Husky vs. a Dokie, Gator, Bruins or a Jayhawk.

Good get but remember these ratings dont guarantee anything.

Of course not, but basketball recruiting means a lot more than football since they actually have to play against each other in AAU games. He is a wing player and UCONN is wing U. Calhoun has done wonders with wing players. Anyway, he is one of the top players UCONN really wanted and I am glad he is a Husky vs. a Dokie.

Our recruiting class for 2010 is absolutely horrible but 2011 is looking very good. With Michael Chandler, Zac Price and Wayne Blackshire that is very solid. Just waiting to see what Marquies Teague does-(the number 2 player in the 2011 class) it looks like it is a battle between Louisville and Kentucky for his services. Now land him then Louisville will have it version of the Fab 5.

RE: UCONN landed big time recruit Roscoe Smith
The Mountaineers 2010 class has the main thing we need in it, another PG. Noah Cottrill will be able to run Huggs' offense the way he wants it run. Distributing the ball is what Noah does best. Just ask Michael Beasley or Patrick Patterson, the guys he grew up with playing ball. The problem next year will be replacing the lost players on the front line; Smith, Butler, and Ebanks (if he turns pro, which I think is a foregone conclusion. big bucks are hard to say no to)...
WVU doesn't have any commits for 2011 yet. But our 2012 class is shaping up nicely, with a couple of 6'8" forwards committed, and both look like Huggs type of players so far, with a couple more scholarships to give out...
