Remember that the BCS bowls are every bit as much of a cartel as the BCS conferences themselves, so they protect their own.

That was definitely a bad rating for a Big Ten team - not very compelling teams featuring the Big Ten's smallest market (Iowa) and a limited fan base in the ACC (Georgia Tech). Of course, it still needs to be said that all of the non-championship BCS bowls that have received a 10.0 or greater since the ACC/BE conference realignment have ALL featured Big Ten schools (and they weren't just Rose Bowls), so that's still the track record for the conference.

I know most of you justifiably hate the ACC, but they aren't going to get pushed out by anyone. They are very good friends with the Big Ten and Pac-10 because of the similar academic profiles. At the same time, they share a lot of states (AKA politicians) with the SEC, and if you think Virginia's legislature freaked out when Virginia Tech was going to be left out of the ACC expansion, just imagine the pressure that the FSU and Miami political grads will put on Florida, Georgia Tech political grads on Georgia, Clemson political grads on South Carolina, etc. if there was any threat that the ACC could lose its BCS status altogether.

No league will ever lose BCS status in my opinion. Others may get it, but no one will lose it.

Yep. The ACC will not be a part of the BCS only on the day that there is no longer a BCS. Then, they will be a member of whatever arrangement among the top conferences takes its place.

It has a mid major feel to it. You don't get Florida...you get Florida State. You don't get Georiga....you get Georiga Tech.

You mean like how the Big 10 doesn't get Ohio... they get Ohio State. They don't get Penn... they get Penn State. 01-wingedeagle

Ridiculous comparison, but I would hope you know that.

The only reason you think the comparison is rediculous is because Florida State and Georgia Tech aren't state sponsored schools like PSU and tOSU. But the comparison isn't as rediculous as you think. The only rediculous thing is that you can't see how rediculous how narrow, you're one sided viewpoint has become...

The real fear should be ACC or BE becoming indistinguishable from the MWC, thus allowing cutting into of the disbursements (and potentially other resources) of the other conferences. There's only two ways to do that: 1. Maintain and promote quality performances and fan support among league members, 2. When you play the MWC, beat them.

I agree with everything in there, but what gets me about bullet #2 is: Is it the ACC or Big East who's always losing to MWC teams? No, it's the PAC 10!

One thing that might help out ALL BCS Bowl Games...is that ESPN (for ABC) takes over ALL FIVE BCS Bowl Games next year....as FOX did a horrible job in the games that they covered (was it 3 or 4 BCS Bowl games this year....and 4 BCS Games last year?)

Maybe, but the fact that all these games are being played 3 and 4 days after New Year's Day does not help interest. These bowls would be better off if they played one game on New Year's Eve, 2 on New year's Day and one on January 2nd, with the national championship game as soon as possible afterward.

Next year's title game will be on January 10, 2011, which probably won't help matters.

I agree, the further into January these games go, the less meaning it seems they have. To be honest, the BCS games this year were an afterthought. After New Years, I feel as though a lot of people kind of close the book on college football. There didn't seem to be any major hype with the matchups and I know I kind of didn't even care.
