Memphis at Syracuse
Memphis looked good at the start of the year but fell off a bit. Coming off a loss to Pitt and being on national television, SYR has to really display their talent tonight to be relevant this season.
I say the team got sloppy in BE play- I don't credit the defenses they played against in SH or Pitt. They couldn't finish a fast break against SH and with three three point shooters around 50 percent, they only made one three against Pitt.

With the honeymoon over SYR has to get down to the real business of playing BB. I think the real season begins tonight. I think they make a strong statement against Memphis tonight-- We'll have to see just what kind of statement they make.

If Johnson wants to spend the next ten years of his life counting money- he better prove it tonight.

The game is being played in Syracuse. I will be pleasantly surprised if the Tigers keep it close.

I was at the SYR-Pitt game and the Orange looked as bad as they have all season. The three point shooting was atrocious. I think this will be pretty competitive, but the Orange will come out with a chip on their shoulders. I always root for memphis because they are in C-USA UNLESS they play the Orange or the Knights. Pitt just destroyed Syracuse's 2-3 zone, but I don't see that happening again tonight.

RE: Memphis at Syracuse
Calipari abscounded with all but one of his recruits last Spring and Memphis is left with insufficient depth, especially inside (serious rebounding problems). On the other hand, there are several athletic players who some nights are capable of filling the baskets with 3's - if they get hot, we are capable of winning. If not, it may get ugly. With a top-rated recruiting class coming in next year, Tiger basketball should be back on top soon enough.

Listen, the way that Cuse has been playing lately, I think this game will be close, and its not out of reach for Memphis to win if they bring their AA game.

Memphis CAN win this game, but it's unlikely. However, that's why they play the games. We'll have to make some 3's to have a chance.

Maybe you can credit Jamie Dixon. He owns Jimmy B. 11-3 all time.

I read on another board that Pitt hasn't been to a final four since 1941. Dominating Jimmy B is nice on a personal resume but a 70 year final four drought-- geese. Gotta aim a little higher than just beating up on Jimmy B.

Syracuse has already knocked down more threes against memphis in the first ten minutes than they did all game against Pitt. Good sign. This is a three point shooting team.

Cuse was sloppy and missed a bunch of bunnies, UM hot from the three tied at 32 at halftime

I think we'll go on to win.

RE: Memphis at Syracuse
Syr sorta sucks.

Sorry to say.

Big guys can't finish and they stink from the line.

Only good news is that three point shooting is going to be king this year. Everybody got three point shooters and its a game changer. SYR should beat Memphis and I think SYR will pull away but Memphis is not a bad team. Their only bad loss was to UMASS but they hung with Kansas losing by only two.

Wow, I was way off. This years Memphis team seem to be a better shooting team, and their foul shooting seems to be better as well. Cuse finally started playing their game in the second half. But still, I expected this game to be a little closer.

It didn't look like we had any legs in the second half, and we certainly weren't moving the ball around the perimeter as well. I'm not sure if we got lazy/tired, or if Syracuse ratcheted up the pressure that much...my money is on somewhere in the middle.

We simply didn't have the horses to play with a very good Syracuse team for 40 minutes. I hope this isn't the end of the series...I like playing the Orange.

My congrats to Memphis on a hard fought game!

As many of you know, I have been adamantly opposed to a potential Memphis move to the Big East. However, I like their new young head coach a great deal and, unlike Calipari, he seems to be building their program "the right way." Next year's recruiting class is stacked and he even lured a player or two (Barton) away from 'Cuse. In Pastner's case, there isn't even a hint of shenanigans, nor test score manipulation. He's doing it all on the "up and up" and that's Big East-worthy.

Further, I have "spoken" (online) to a number of Memphis fans and they've informed me of some of the steps being taken by Shirley Raines to move their school into the US News first tier. In this regard, Memphis is doing all the right things.

However, I continue to think that Athletic Director R.C. Johnson is an absolute buffoon. That man has no business being affiliated with a BCS conference.

Should Raines be successful in her academic efforts, and Pastner continue to build a solid program beyond ethical reproach, and R.C. Johnson be removed from his current position, I would (without equivocation) support a Memphis move to the Bg East.

Memphis' best bet to move top "tier" wise would be to take control of the UT Health Science Center in Memphis (rumored)...UT has always wanted an on-campus medical schools...and the UofMemphis would then have a medical school...our endowment would go up dramatically.

Go Tigers!!!

RE: Memphis at Syracuse
Thanks! I know many don't like her, but Raines is making the right moves on the academic front. We have a long way to go to get to Tier 1, and (quite sadly) a lot of it has nothing to do with the quality of education. Hell, the president of UF listed us as one of 5 schools to get a 1 on his ballot. Of course, he also rated Florida a 5 and Harvard a 4. Anyway, that's another discussion for another day. Great game...well, half a game...and I hope we can do it again soon.

Bedtime.

RE: Memphis at Syracuse
a medical school is our best bet....

UT wants an on-campus med-school...

and if the UofM took over the UT health Science Center (in downtown Memphis)...wow...it would be HUGE...

it would give East TN (Memphis)...Middle TN (Vandy)...and East Tn (UT)...each a med-school.

Go Tigers!!!
