Let's not go overboard. USC finished 3-5 in the SEC, tied for 7th, and lost their last 3 SEC games by 10 or more points each.

Not a very impressive team, which is why they were way down in the papajohns bowl.

They also throttled Clemson right before the bowl game. No one is saying they are a top SEC team, they are right there with the rest outside Bama and Fla. We are just comparing stats vs. other top SEC teams.

I'm surprised you didn't pick up on Spurrier's backhanded slap at UConn. His apology for his offense's poor play is just that. He should've been congratulating UConn's defense for shutting down his nearly non-existant offense. But he preferred to blame his offense for not being good enough to move the ball against a defense from The BEast...
No one ever said the old ball coach was classy LOL. Of course they lost because they did not show up and not because of UCONN LOL. I mean in a bowl game in the deep south on national TV etc. Most USC fans said this team was going to win the SEC East next year and Garcia was the one of the best QB in the SEC. I never liked Spurrier's cocky attitude. He should learn a thing or two about class from Edsall. UCONN could have easily scored another TD and Edsall told them to take the knee. If it was Spurrier, I have no doubt they would have tried to score.
I've seen it happen more than once, that's for sure... 04-cheers

Give Spurrier his due: When you consider winning + strategic influence + generation of fan interest, he was probably the most impactful figure in college football during the 1990s. He built a dynasty at Florida with a high-flying offense and created rivalries out of thin air with his acerbic comments about other teams and coaches.

Loads of fun for us spectators.

Fan travel report from UCONN fans at the game:

45K attendance - record PAPAJOHN crowd. Was the largest crowd for this bowl game ever. The stadium looked full during most of the game with majority of Cocks fans leaving by 3rd quarter due to the cold weather and the fact the Cocks were getting hammered.

20K-30K Cocks fan there. Keep in mind it was about 3+ hour drive from South Carolina and UCONN fans have to spent average over $1K just to get to this bowl. Some crazy ones actually drove but like I said, they are crazy.

UCONN sold 4800 tickets through school, but there were about 12K UCONN fans there including the band. Like last year's INTL bowl, many brought through other venues because they are cheaper. The prices through the school are kind of ripoff.

Rest I guess were locals. Definitely nowhere close to as bad as others have predicted.

BTW, Papa John was openly cheering for USC and said they would show what SEC football is all about LOL.

I remember Georgia players saying similar prior to the 2006 Sugar Bowl in Atlanta...

Belated congrats to UCONN; very good win for your program and the Big East.

Plus, humbling Spurrier is always a good thing. 04-cheers
