You figure that Coach Shields thought that he was just too slow? Possibility, but I really don't know the answer.

I wondered the same thing. He must really have some bad practices from time to time. Thats the only thing I can figure why he can go from starter to no minutes. I think he could have banged with their big man some.

I understand how you sometimes use players that match up well with the opponent, and yes, I believe without a doubt, North Texas would have left him in the dust, but again the question arises. Why do we recruit big guys that are too slow, or they can't shoot? I agree that he was too slow afoot to play against those big quick NT bigs. Those guys could get up and down the floor.

I assume its because we couldn't get anybody better. Not sure what's happened to Bails. Before the Memphis game, Joe Kleine told me he had his best week of practice and he started that game (Memphis isn't exactly slow either). Why he's disappeared since, I don't have an answer for. I guess at some point the coaches need to "fish or cut bait" with Derrick. If he's not going to be a factor, there is no sense in pushing him to get his degree by the end of this summer (necessary if he is to play next year under Prop 48 rules). We'd be better off using his scholarship on a Juco big. Personally, I still hope Derrick works out. Seems like a really nice kid; he was willing to come here with no scholarship and sit out a year; he has the closest thing to an "NBA body" we've seen here in quite awhile.

We needed him or someone to help with the 53% they shot against us.
