Old Dominion (8-4) jumped out to an early 10-point lead an never looked back in handing Charlotte an 81-48 loss at the Ted Constant Convocation Center, Wednesday night.
The Monarchs opened up that double-digit lead in the first seven minutes of the game and had pushed the lead to 19, 27-8 with 8:16 to play. By halftime, Old Dominion enjoyed a 40-13 lead, holding Charlotte to just four baskets on only nine shots (16%) while forcing 11 turnovers. Old Dominion shot .581 (18-of-31) in that first half.
Overall the Monarchs shot 53% from the field while Charlotte mustered just 33% shooting. Old Dominion also domintaed the 49ers on the boards, grabbing 47 rebounds to the 49ers 26.
Shamari Spears led the 49ers with 12 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Derrio Green scored eight points on 2-of-9 shooting.
Old Dominion had four players in double figures, led by Gerald Lee, who scored 16 points with 7 rebounds and Trian Iliadis, who came off the bench to score a career-high 13 points.
The loss drops Charlotte to 9-2 and snaps the 49ers seven-game win streak, which included four straight on the road.
