RE: Minutes from Big East Meetings in 2003
After reading that i certainly have to questionthe integrity and character of BC's Leahy. It seemed he knew all along that BC was still "flirting" with the ACC.
So, knowing this, not only was HE WILLING to screw over his fellow Catholic non FB brothers by casting them out without any AQ status for ANY of their sports, he was willing to lead the FB teams on and get them to commit to a new FB ONLY BE and then pull the rug out from under them and bolt and the 1st chance he got for the ACC. Leaving them without the required # to maintain BCS and AQ status. Classy!

I wonder how far along he would have let it go had the FB schools agreed to split. Would the BB schools now in the majority (nd) sue to get the BE name? What a mess that could have been

I would think in the long run both sides would have ended up ok, with some kind of swap between CUSA, A10 and the two sides but still.

Your assuming of course that BC didn't decide to leave after it was apparent that there wouldn't be an all sports league. Who knows what would have happened if the split were made. Likely BC still goes to the ACC but I don't think it can be speculated on unless there is some legit information that contradicts this.

I think the 16 team setup probably pushed them over the edge.(or at least offered a convenient excuse). I still think that had the BE split with BC and they added L'ville and whoever else, that BC still would have gone once the ACC came a callin'. I guess we'll never know for sure

We would have been in ACC, if BC had stayed in the Beast. 04-cheers

That would not have been a likely scenario because of academics. The Acc, the Big 10 and the Pac 10 are truly concerned about its academics. Louisville would be in the BE no matter what though.

Remembering that college athletics is as much of a business as it is sports, I don't know how you stop BC from leaving after Miami and VaTech left. It was a prudent business decision for the Eagles who don't have much basketball tradition. Following Miami was the best thing for the BC football program and overall athletics.

That being said, BC could have handled the situation better.

Boston College's mistake...Leaving it's geographic rival's. Now BC sport's have become more lame than ever.
