Should Lance be playing point?
I've been kicking this one around a bit.

Lance is tall. He can handle the ball. He is a very good passer. He is a scorer. He has the height to see and pass over most defenders and the height to get the ball into the post players. He can penetrate.

With Lance handling the ball, he becomes like Wall. He can pass & score when the system breaks down.

I'm calling Mick. He'll listen to me.

If someone else brings the ball up, yes.

I've been saying "yes," as well, and so has Anthony Buford.

Vaughn and his 3-4 turnovers belong behind the arc, spotting up.

It was clear that 1st open practice that he was the best PG on the team. Problem is he is also the best 2/3.

Sure.

He's a better option than Leonta, and Wright couldn't hit water falling out of a boat.

RE: Should Lance be playing point?
I think someone said before the season started that Lance is the best ball handler in UC history and the 2nd best passer. Beyond that, however, one of the htings that impresses me about Lance is his b-ball IQ. Thus far, he is less prone to making typical freshman mistakes -- notice I said "less prone", not immune.

Maybe the UC Med School could clone Lance and we could have him play the 1, the 2, and the 3.

I think PG (or positionless "guard", like Wade) is clearly Lance's spot at the next level, so I have to think he would be very OK with the change in role.

Move Lance to PG and convince Yancy to fight for entry pass positioning in the low post and we improve greatly.

in a word: NO.

in 2 words: HELL NO.

LBJ doesn't even play PG on the Cavs and he's their best passer.

you don't want your best player to expend the energy it takes to run point prior to even attacking the opposing team.

c'mon, this is really basketball 101 stuff fellas.

RE: Should Lance be playing point?
I'd rather not see Lance having to bring it up the floor each possession. I think teams would press just to wear him down. Plus, he's going to be facing tougher matchups as UC enters Big East play, so it may take him a little bit to get comfortable offensively.

I would approve of him running the half court sets, he's clearly the best player with the ball in his hands. If he can't find a teammate for a good look, he can create his own shot off the dribble.

You picked a not-so-good example there.

When Mo Williams is in the game, Lebron and Mo pretty much trade off at the 1 and the 2 on offense. When Delonte comes in the game, LeBron IS the #1. You do know that LeBron is averaging almost twice as many assists per game than the Cavs "point guard" -- right?

UC needs -- desparately needs -- someone who can make a post entry pass.

RE: Should Lance be playing point?
In the last few games, Lance has largely controlled the offense after the ball has crossed half court. Good things happen when the ball is in his hands. You do not want him bringing the ball up unless on a break but you do want the ball in his hands as much as possible in the half court.

Leave him on the wing.

At this point, do we need LS getting the ball to other people, or other people getting the ball to lance? Beside, you can't throw it into the post from the top of the key very successfully. On the wing, people have to keep one eye on him.

Don't think we should limit him to the point.

He doesn't have to play PG to have the offense run through him. Have someone else bring the ball down, and then start the offense through Lance.

Thats saying something when we had guys like Keith Legree, Charles Williams and Michael Horton running the show. [insert sarcasm as needed]
