STR-Memphis Landmarks
Since a lot of people will be traveling to and from Memphis this week for the Christmas Holidays, and in spirit with Tiger B'Ham's article about Memphis, I was wondering what one image of Memphis do you visualize when you think about Memphis?

I seem to always think of downtown, the river and Pyramid as the image. That might be because it seems like 90% of the time that I drove to and from Memphis it always involved heading west to visit and coming back through downtown via I-40 on the way home. What a beautiful sight.

RE: STR-Memphis Landmarks
So many of them for me, but I left in 1999:

1) Standing on the bluff over-looking the River, Memphis in May activities and river-boats, etc.

2) The Peabody

3) The Pyramid

5) North End

6) Beale Street

7) The Orpheum

8) Liberty Bowl

9) T. J. Mulligan's

10) Huey's

11) The Sixer

12) Rendevous and Corky's

To name a few. You guys that live there are lucky; I miss the town.

Visiting the week after Christmas - hope to make the maybe the IUPUI gae.

One of my favorites are the gargoyles on the YMCA building I think right at 4th street from what I remember.
That's not a lie, it is what I remember. But I know the gargoyles there are awesome!!!!

same here - there's a point where the FEF rooftop is visible along with everything else downtown. Not the most glamorous skyline, but definitely one with character and history.

I love the grotto at Memorial Park on Poplar. As a kid, my mom would take us there, we would play by the wishing well & the grove by the grotto. The petrified trees/benches are awesome.

RE: STR-Memphis Landmarks
I have to say driving down Riverside Drive. I get to see the new bridge. And when I see that Big Memphis. It puts my heart at ease. Plus I love water, and seeing the river. I feel at home. Also, whenever I watch NBA games from other NBA teams on TV when they are visiting Memphis. They alsways show this angle from second street looking down Beale. I love Beale, there nothing like Beale during Memphis May. You can hear all of this great music drinking a beer looking at beautiful women while walking down Beale. I love Beale the way someone from New Orelans love Burbon. Man I love my city!

I have another question. What Memphis song/artist makes you think of Memphis? When I hear Love and Happiness that makes me think of Memphis.
