Scholarship Football Rumor
Has anyone heard any additional information about if or when we might implement scholarship football?

I have heard a couple rumors from some other alumni that support the sports program that it might be sooner rather than later. I actually heard from another person that we were giving scholarship next year to players. I told them I did not think that was the case but that the player he was referring to might have gotten an academic scholarship but that we could not give out athletic scholarships for football and remain in the Pioneer League.

I think we need to eventually move to scholarship football but don't we need to get the stadium finished first and have a few more years of experience with the program before we make that step. I assume it would be five to ten years down the road at best.

What are your thoughts on this?

I don't like the idea of a scholarship team at the moment. There is much more the school in general could use the money on as of right now

well my 2 cents worth are this. I would love to do Big South full Scholly as soon as possible. in my opinion this would bring the fans, bigger stadium and most important some notoriety. I would love to attend a home game against Coastal, GW, Liberty and the likes. It has been said several times, but it is coming. Hopefully, as mentioned above, it is more sooner than later.

I am in complete agreement. The sooner we can add scholarship football the more legitimate our football team can become. I am not sure if it will ever happen. I would like to think it would but that is a lot of money the school would be dishing out. I think the stadium needs to be finished first and lights need to be added but after those hurdles are cleared I think scholarship football in the Big South makes sense and would be best for all involved. I can only hope that is happens sooner than later.

You got to win consistently at what you're doing before you can hope to compete at the next level.

I think football has made a turn and will win consistantly in 2010. If the play calling and coaching is a good as the players have improved in 2010 we may even have a winning season.

"if the play calling and coaching have improved"? That's the problem they haven't and they won't and that's what will hold this veteran club back. I see 4 maybe 5 wins max. With the right chemistry there's no reason they shouldn't win 6 games.

The fact that the team led the conference and ranked among the top 15 nationally tells me that the coaching staff may have figured something out. I know you don't believe they have but I have see great improvement from both the players and coaches in the second year. If the team can make a similar jump in the years to come we may have a viable contender in the conference in the not so distant future. If we do make that sort of improvement I see no reason for scholarship football to not be an option.
