Alright wise guy. I'd ask Cross myself but it would be best if I not start talking UT b-ball in public. It could get very ugly.

Depending on the reasons and him being from NW Indiana, he could end up going down St.Joseph College down in Rensaleer, Indiana which is D2 or to one of the three NAIA schools in the area(Calumet College of St. Joseph, Purdue-Calumet,or Indiana University in Gary) and try to play right away.

Not too subtle of a reference in that game's name...

If he leaves UT and if he continues to play hoops I don't see him going D1- he'll be three years removed from a full season of play before he hits the hardwood. For a young man as motivatedscholasticallyasheappearsto be He would be nearlydone with his undergrad- dental school and hoops is a tough combination.

Practically called this one(Indiana-state Toledo forum) Im gonna give myself credit lol. I could tell players were not happy with that loss. Coaching is been below average, the players are below average with the exception of a few maybe being average. This program is really spinning downward, we cant even win home non-conference games any more, I think Stan only lost single digits home non-conference games in his tenure.

Hopefully, the situation is not as dire as some are painting it. Might want to know the facts before we pin blame.

Just knock it off already with good sense and patience. We want speculation and innuendo and we're not quittin' 'til we get it! 03-wink

It is "mind boggling" as someone once said.

That being said, this was one of Cross' men so it's discouraging. But I don't see a true trend. It is the end of the semester and kids leave school for all kinds of reasons. Heck I left UT for BG after my freshman year only to return two years later. So I'm not going to judge either party. I'm still giving Cross a free pass this year.

Good luck Stephen, we wish you well.

RE: Albrecht leaves team
i believe this means that cross's entire - and large (7 man) - initial recruiting class has been reduced to ian salter. (gone; tucker, tubbs, okafor, taylor, sterling, albrecht) so that would be a trend.

i don't know details (yet)

back to the loss to ISU, i am baffled by the post isu game comment when the reporter directly questioned cross leaving in both dressler (47% ff), molo (50%) along w bastfield (40%) shunnar (walk on w 5 career ff attempts), and barnett (who should have been there). cross replied that he didn't insert anyijong (his captain and most experienced player) because "it's a matter of picking your poison... and he's not one of our better ballhandlers"

well justin (70%)may not be bob cousy, but he's a lot better w the rock in the open court than dressler or molo and he's a 70% ff shooter.

this may have been a more calculated move on albrecht's part than it seems. he is a strong student and just finished the term. he can transfer and start school on time in the jan term (and play immediately if he goes down a level).

i am most concerned in that albrecht is a smart, level headed kid. it's not like so hot head quit the team. also, it's another instance of poor use of scholarships. cross signs a kid w injury issues and the likelihood he will need to rs his first yr so that scholarship is given w no return on the investment in yr 1. then, the kid leaves early in yr 2 so we basically lose that scholarship again. we now have 9 scholarship yrs that have been lost so far under cross (guys who took a scholarship but didn't complete the season). plus 2 players who took scholarships as freshmen and then left.

is this rebuilding or playing jenga w michael j fox?

Just to play devil's advocate: Stephen was around for a year as a redshirt so he knew what Cross was like. He came in with a back injury, when no one else was touching him because of it, and got a free surgery and rehab. He develops into a key player on the team, doesn't start ONE game (ISU) and that's it, leaves. I think there are two sides to this story.

Of course there are 2 sides to the story. For that matter it may not be anyone's "fault" but it's the bigger story of losing 6 out of 7 recruits from the first class that is a concern.

Granted Cross was hired late in the recruiting cycle after the season was over and signed some players that were still around because they were risky additions but - losing 6 out of 7 ?

RE: Albrecht leaves team
I kinda agree- if you haven't developed some sort of relationship throughout the recruiting process there's something missing from one side, the other or both. And yes, Cross may have settled for what was availablein his first class. But some of those guys could have played and losing six is pretty out there. In essence its saying "this year is my first recruiting year" which then moves the timetable for success back a full year. And I'm not totally sold on this class being great- I think Dressler and Griffin have a lot of potential and Barnett is clearly there already but it ain't Swaney, Miller and Selgo.

Selgo could always shoot, but he really had to work on his conditioning and speed to become a good player.Miller was also kind of a diamond in the rough. He really came on after playing for Bobby Knight and the US Pan Am team.
