That's what we've been hearing for years. How long is "the long run", exactly? Hasn't happened yet.

And what's the remedy for this dilemma? The immediate admission of Memphis into the league, right? The Tigers to the rescue? 03-lmfao

He is right in a way and it has nothing to do with my Tigers. The BE has no vision.

Really? I don't agree with that. The BE was left for dead 5 years ago. Everybody assumed the conference would lose its BCS bid and be a joke, and look where the league is now.... I'd say the conference has done pretty darn well overall, including the BE leadership. We'll see how things develop, but I don't think they have no "vision" at all.

Not even an expansion to 12 teams and the addition of Miami, Virginia Tech and Boston College could bolster the traditional basketball power into a relevant football conference. Hurt by the downfall of longtime titans Florida State and Miami, the league lost its first eight BCS bowl appearances prior to Virginia Tech's Orange Bowl win last season. On four occasions, its champion failed to finish in the final AP top 10. And its five-year old conference championship game has been an attendance and TV disaster."

The Worst BCS Conference

In the long run, the ACC will leave the Big East, in its present form, in the dust.

In what long run? You mean when Miami has a good recruiting class- they've had that for five years.

The ACC has to overcome the SEC in their footprint and with the SEC's new TV contract they are going to be everywhere, blowing the ACC out of the water. The SEC is the first choice for good athletes in the south and it's only going to get worse for the ACC. The BE needs to develop the north and we're doing that.

The Yankee bowl involving NYC's mayor and the power of the largest city in the nation is an example of our vision.

The problem is not the ACC/BE the problem is the ACC/SEC. The SEC has closed the gap in BB and has the lead in FB. The ACC is just UNC in BB and that's it. Miami's greatness is attributed to the their time in the BE.

Boston College won't be helping the ACC out in any sport anytime soon. BC is the only charter member of the BE to never make the final four. Even Rutgers, Seton Hall and St. Johns have made the final four in the BE but not BC. BC is fading in Boston as fast as fans are fading from the ACC championship game.

Its been five years now, and so far you and he both are wrong. I dont know why memphis fans would want to join a league with "no vision", unless you guys think the BE has "no vision" because they havent invited the Tigers.

I think it comes from the poster who believes that Memphis is the white knight that will save the Big East from doom and irrelevance. Not you, but another Memphis fan on this thread.

If we do join, our our hoops will seal the BE as the best basketball conference period, yea our football sucks but we are actually doing alot of stuff now like upgrades to facilities, raises in assistant coaches salaries to 1.8 million a year....but no, we would def water down the BE if we joined now

The BE is already the best BB conference...period. Our football is better than most want to admit.

It's nice that the media actually acknowledges that the ACC is the worst football conference. They have been for a while. I think the ACC has a problem in the south compared to the SEC. The geographical footprint is almost the same and the SEC is better in football than the ACC and getting better at basketball although they still trail the ACC.
The Big East is the best in Basketball and having the great coaches like Boeheim, Calhoun, Pitino and Huggins means that this is probably not going to change. ACC hoops has definately gone downhill since the merger. The only basketball teams they have that are any good are UNC and Duke.

I think the best solution for everyone is ACC go back to 10 teams and BE add BCU and Maryland to go up to 10. If B11 raid BE for a team, BE can add UCF or ECU or Temple to go back to 10. The ACC championship obviously isn't working for that conference. BCU and Maryland would be better fit in the BE in the long term. I don't know if BE is proactive in this but this would make most of the sense assuming TV contract $$$ will all work out during the next round of negotiation.

Maryland already has a built in rivalry with WVU. BCU does not belong in the ACC period.

The sad thing is that so few do recognize the ACC's inferiority. All season long The Sporting News' Matt Hayes has ranked the conferences and he's had the BE sixth all year. The really funny thing is that this week they listed each conference's record in the post season the last five years. The BE is ahead of the Big11 and the ACC by a mile, but he still has the BE behind them.
