UC travels better than the Gators
Things I'm told
UC now has more tickets to sell directly obtained from the Sugar Bowl and UC
has been contacted by the UF Athletics Department about selling a large portion of
their allotment for the game. It is going to be one of the largest
concentrations of Bearcats fans at any one event in school history on 1-1-10 in
New Orleans as the Bearcats chase perfection against the Gators.

Outtraveling Florida is huge. I guess Gator fans won't show up for anything less than the BCS Championship game these days...

It's all about circumstances. For Cincy this is the biggest game in their history, a shot at an undefeated season and maybe a split title if they blow out Florida.

For Florida, it's coming off their biggest disappointment in the past couple years. I REALLY hope Cincy continues to travel this well to all bowls. I think Cincy has the opportunity to become a VT type program.

RE: UC travels better than the Gators
Bowl tickets sold by UC football the last three years:

Papajohns.com Bowl: 10,511 tickets at $30 each

Orange Bowl: 13,600 tickets at $125 each (These were tickets bought through the athletic department. There were at least 20,000 UC fans at the Orange Bowl. Many bought discounted tickets through a secondary source because of the availability of tickets).

Sugar Bowl: 18,000+ and still going at $125 each. (We could travel 25,000 UC fans to New Orleans this year).

UC is developing a solid traveling fan base.

Go UC!! Go Big East!!

RE: UC travels better than the Gators
That is great for UC but dont fool yourselves the Sugar Bowl will have the majority of the attendees pulling for UF. Many of the better seats are sold to SEC bigshots and SEC schools way before the game and they end up in the hands of the SEC schools. Thats why when you go to the game youll see many UF fans sitting in the prime seats rather than the endzone areas which are the tickets given to the schools invited.

Absolutely this will be a home game for Florida. But UC fans will make plenty of noise for our team, and the Big East.

Rest assured that information like this will be well buried by pro-SEC national media.

Have to agree there. The Bearcat contingent in the stadium will be good, but the SEC pulls more for their members in bowl games than any other conference (and I don't mean this in a good way, no game should end with chants to the conference instead of the team).

This really is huge for UC because it shows other bowls that the Bearcats will travel. Good news for UC and the entire Big East.

I remember in 2005 at the Insight Bowl several instances early on of us Rutgers fans chanting Big East football. Generally, speaking Big East members' fans pull for each other since our continued survival and eventual success depends on it. Someday when it doesn't I'd expect it to continue because of what we've been through.

I understand the position and realize people always have different things to cheer. Chanting for the SEC is as much about chanting about southern pride as conference pride to many. Routing for Ohio State is as much about showing state pride as school pride for me. With all that said, those conference chants will forever be one thing that annoys me (although oddly the bowl system, a system I love, is largely responsible for it; no one would really care about conferences with a big playoff).

Different situations of course - Cincy is Big East champs, unbeaten, and with a great chance to showcase themselves in a BCS bowl against the top program of the past 5 years.

For UF, the Sugar is a huge letdown after having their SEC and national title hopes dashed, so not surprising the Sugar is a weak ticket in Gainesville.

Fans get spoiled quickly...

Wait a second... you're saying that fans don't exclusively buy tickets through the university? That CAN'T be true, since there are folks who come on and spout the numbers of tickets sold through the university as the ONLY legitimate source of fans who go to the game.

I am only a bit surprised. Cincy fans are very excited about being in the Sugar bowl, while gator fans are not. They wanted Champ game, anything less was a let down for them.

RE: UC travels better than the Gators
I have to chuckle when I read that Florida wants UC to take a bunch of Sugar bowl tickets off of its hands. I thought SEC schools travel 50,000 for a scrimmage? So much for that urban myth.

All that I care about is the fact that UC is putting to bed this misperception that we don't travel or that Big East schools don't travel. For three straight bowl games UC has done its part. SEC apologists on this thread can rationalize all they want why Florida is not selling Sugar Bowl tickets. But at least give UC fans credit for supporting our team and the Big East in record numbers!!

The only SEC fans that like Florida are Gator fans. I know Tennessee fans root against the Gators, no matter who they're playing...

I don't think it was a misperception. Up until two years ago we didn't travel well to bowl games. Two years ago at Birmingham and last year in Miami we grew our traveling fan bases, this year we exploded it. Bowls are all about money and next time we are being looked at bowls will see that we sold out our Sugar Bowl allotment and actually asked for more tickets. I think thanks to the last couple years we join WVU on the short list of teams that could get a BCS at-large bid if we finish 11-1 or 10-2.
