RE: Big East Football Attendance
With the economy the way it has been and still is to some extent, this is a great job by all Big East fans.

What's also impressive to me is that this was done even though Louisville's fan base has had a depressing year. If Louisville's program can turn around, their fans have a history of coming back out in force. As a result, there's a lot of potential for those overall numbers move up dramatically in the future simply by having a viable Louisville football team.

RE: Big East Football Attendance
Conference - total attendance of 8 teams

2009 – 2,374,604
2008 – 2,243,553
2007 – 2,197,190
2006 – 2,030,211
2005 – 1,812,406
2004 – 1,549,992 (7 teams, Temple still in the league)
2003 – 2,390,358 (Old Beast last year together)
2002 – 2,315,608
2001 – 1,927,280
2000 – 2,030,230

Overall, we are catching up to the old league.
Last year of the old BEast- VT averaged 65k after they expanded their stadium and Miami averaging over 55k.

We don’t have Temple to bring down the average and Rutgers double their average to over 40k and now heading toward 50k or more. The weak links are UC and UConn with only 35k seating and 40k seating capacity. Once Louisville finish their expansion and everyone max out their seating capacity we could reach 2.5 millions total attendance with just 8 teams and average over 45k just 5k below ACC. But we don’t have 80k seating capacity stadium.

This league is very deep with every team capable of win conference championship and every program has a strong fans support.

RE: Big East Football Attendance
If the other schools have even similar attendance numbers next year, 2010 will blow 2009's conference average out of the water, impressive as it is to increase by 1,500 fans a game. UofL's 2010 schedule is set up for high numbers with the opponents and all factors considered.

With the fans making a decision to sit out the end of this year, I expect UofL to lead the NCAA next year in attendance increases. My estimate is we'll go from 32,450 to at least 50,000. We'll sell out the opener against UK at 56,000 with the new coach and the rivalry game. UofL is on the rotation where we get the 4 home/3 road conference games in even years, so we'll see good numbers for WVU/USF/Cincy/UConn.

The 6th home game is Memphis, where we'll see better numbers than we would for most non-BCS teams. The 7th home game is Eastern Kentucky. That will be the stinker, but at least it's an in-state I-AA. The only way I see lower than expected attendance is if the team starts falling below expectations late in year. Most expectations are reasonable in year one though, more along the lines of back to a bowl and being competitive again, not a BCS bowl. You can't expect that with what Strong has been left to work with.

No one will stay static, but just to play with the numbers, altering UofL to 50k moves the conference average up around 2,200 to about 46,700.

Yes, 2002 when 12 games started so we have '02 and '03 of the old BE to look at.

UC will host Oklahoma at Paul Brown Stadium next year. That should be good for at least 50,000 or more I would think, and if UC can stay successful they could set another new attendance record.

RE: Big East Football Attendance
Were the U or BC better draws when they were in the Big East than they are in the ACC?

Both of those schools tend to pull in good TV ratings, but as far as butts in seats is concerned, they wouldn't even lead the modern C-USA. As a South Florida native, I would guess that teams from the Northeast would probably draw bigger crowds at Joe Robbie Pro Player Dolphin Stadium than teams like UNC or UVA. I would also guess that would be true in Boston as well... is that actually the case?

I care, because I didn't think the ACC should've expanded, and I enjoy laughing at them for it.

Then you can research that. I think what bit is saying is that we have moved on and care more about those in our current league are doing.

Don't be surprised when you see the NCAA attendance report that the Oklahoma game is set aside. They often report numbers based on the stadium, so UC would have one number for the average attendance at Nippert and the Oklahoma game at PBS would be reported separately.

The same thing occurs with Arkansas, who play a couple games in Little Rock every year with 2/3rd of the home schedule in Fayetteville.

Laugh away, Chappy... 04-cheers

But Cuban is right. I could care less about the traitors' successes or failures. They're irrelevant as far as I'm concerned - unless they feel like crawling back. Then they'd be relevant. But I doubt it would improve their image in my eyes...
