As soon as DJ Pirkle steps off the field, Frank the Tank steps on.

Still BASHING Coach Kill “84”…….“Jerry Kill may not be good at a lot of things”

Perhaps you forgot?.......

Coach Kill took over a 2-10 NIU FB Program that was in free fall…..

Turned around the program and won 13 games his first two years and became the FIRST NIU FB Coach to take his team to Back to Back Bowls…….

I would say Coach Kill does a lot of things well…….including turning around a FB Program QUICKLY.....

lol @ saying this program was in a free fall when he took it over. So misleading.

He seems to stand straight up and then use his power to run over people. They can work on that. He looked a little slow, but then he ran down the rb from behind on that screen play, so he showed some quickness and he doesn't quit on a play.

:iagree: Seems to play "high". I think young players who are overtly strong tend to play with their upper bodies and that does not work at the higher levels of play. Power comes from your core/legs and the use of leverage. If he can learn to get low and stay low, we have a player. Get flexible to get lower...

Agree with you on his pad level. The one thing that mitigates that a little is everyone is bigger at the D1 level and hence, the game is played a little higher than at the high school level. He still needs to get his butt down. If he's coachable, that's not too tough a fix. A million squats with coach Klein will help there.

Did anyone see how well he did with his hands? I can't re-watch the video (youtube is blocked here at school, frikkin' kids). A lot of times, these really strong, huge kids have success in high school just by leaning into the o-linemen across from them. That's where Zach Anderson was in the summer. He had great explosion, played pretty low, but basically just smashed his shoulder into the chest of the guy across from him. That works when you're playing across from Chad McCheesehead from Onalaska. When it's J.O... not so much.

What we're looking for is Boenzi to get his hands into the guy across from him and get separation and control of the blocker. Then he can basically throw the kid any which way he wants. That video may not be the best to see that since it's composed mainly of plays where he blows into the backfield, but we ought to be able to get a sense.
